Brewing Belonging: How Starbucks Sea Point Became More Than a Coffee Shop

For the past year, Starbucks Sea Point has evolved into more than a destination for premium coffee. While customers still line up for their favourite beverages, many now stay longer—working remotely, meeting friends, or simply enjoying the welcoming atmosphere that has transformed the café into a genuine community hub.

At the heart of this transformation is the monthly Pilates Sculpt class led by Hannah Cragg, founder of Hannah Habits. After returning to Cape Town from New York, Cragg set out to build something deeper than a fitness business. She wanted to create a space where people could connect, move, and feel like they belonged.

Hosted inside the Sea Point Starbucks, the classes are open to everyone, regardless of fitness level or experience. Whether participants arrive on their own or with friends, they’re welcomed into an inclusive environment where movement is celebrated, not judged.

Over the past year, the classes have developed into a close-knit community. Familiar faces return month after month, friendships have formed, and conversations continue long after the final stretch. What began as a workout has become a place where people support one another and create lasting connections.

The Pilates Sculpt sessions focus on building strength, improving balance, and encouraging mindfulness. Participants leave feeling stronger, more confident, and refreshed—proof that wellness is about more than physical fitness.

That same sense of comfort is reflected in the coffee experience. A warm cup offers a quiet pause before the demands of the day begin, creating moments of calm that perfectly complement the mindful energy of the Pilates sessions.

Together, these experiences have helped redefine what Starbucks Sea Point represents. It’s no longer just a café—it’s a welcoming space where coffee, community, and wellness come together, offering people a place to slow down, connect, and belong.

As the community continues to grow, Starbucks Sea Point stands as an example of how everyday spaces can foster meaningful relationships and healthy habits, one cup of coffee and one Pilates class at a time.
