HACC 2026: Defining the Future of Filmmaking

The Hollywood African Cinema Connection (HACC) returns for its highly anticipated third edition, set to take place in Cape Town from 30 October to 2 November 2026. Under the powerful theme “Our Land. Our Heritage.”, the festival continues its mission of bridging African storytelling with global industry expertise, while unlocking new opportunities for filmmakers across continents.

Positioned as a dynamic hub for collaboration, HACC 2026 invites submissions from filmmakers across Africa, Asia—including the Middle East, India, and Southeast Asia—as well as the diaspora and international creators whose work resonates with these regions. The festival seeks compelling narratives that explore land, identity, heritage, and belonging—stories that reflect both personal and collective histories.

A Global Platform for Storytellers

HACC has steadily built its reputation as a vital platform where creativity meets industry access. Selected filmmakers will have the opportunity to showcase their work to distributors, buyers, and key decision-makers, while engaging directly with audiences in Cape Town.

Submissions are now open via FilmFreeway, with eligibility limited to films completed after October 2024. Preference will be given to South African premieres, further reinforcing the festival’s commitment to spotlighting fresh, locally rooted storytelling.

Strategic Industry Alignment

The 2026 edition is strategically aligned with MIP Africa and FAME Week Africa, positioning HACC within one of the continent’s most influential entertainment ecosystems. This alignment significantly enhances visibility for participating filmmakers, opening doors to global distribution deals, co-production opportunities, and industry partnerships.

Driving Innovation in Film

Beyond screenings, HACC 2026 will host a curated programme of discussions and panels exploring the future of filmmaking across the Global South. Topics will include emerging technologies such as virtual production, digital infrastructure, and the growing influence of Web3 and AI in content creation.

Equally important are conversations around evolving funding and distribution models, including decentralised finance and crowdfunding—tools that are reshaping how films are financed and shared globally.

A Gateway for Investment and Partnerships

HACC 2026 also presents a compelling opportunity for investors, brands, and industry service providers. From film companies and airlines to tech innovators and hospitality groups, the festival offers high-impact exposure to a valuable audience of creatives, buyers, and decision-makers.

With premium media visibility and direct engagement opportunities, partners are positioned at the heart of a fast-growing global content economy. The festival serves as a rare gateway into scalable growth across film, tourism, and the broader creative industries.

Celebrating Excellence and Talent

Over the four-day event, HACC will present a carefully curated selection of films alongside awards recognising excellence in filmmaking. These accolades are designed not only to honour creative achievement but also to support the continued development and distribution of winning projects.

Visionary Leadership

HACC was founded by Weaam Williams, a South African writer, director, and actress with nearly two decades of experience in the industry. Her acclaimed body of work includes Hip-Hop Revolution, which earned recognition from Spike Lee, and District Six: Rising from the Dust, now streaming on Amazon Prime Video.

Williams continues to play a pivotal role in nurturing emerging talent and expanding access to international distribution networks, reinforcing HACC’s mission to connect creators with global opportunities.

Building the Future of Cinema

Supported by an expanding network of international partners across film, technology, and innovation sectors, HACC 2026 is more than a festival—it is a movement aimed at redefining the future of storytelling.

By fostering collaboration, embracing technological advancement, and amplifying diverse voices, HACC is shaping a new narrative for African, Asian, and diaspora cinema on the global stage.

Filmmakers are encouraged to submit early ahead of the upcoming deadline on 27 June 2026, as the festival anticipates a high volume of entries.

As the global film industry continues to evolve, HACC 2026 stands as a powerful testament to the role of storytelling in connecting cultures, driving innovation, and creating meaningful impact worldwide.
