Lindiwe Sanitary Pads Wins Big at Her Perfect Pitch

Lindiwe Sanitary Pads Celebrates Jacaranda FM’s Her Perfect Pitch Win as the Fight Against Period Poverty Continues

Lindiwe Sanitary Pads, a proudly South African, black-women-owned manufacturing company, is celebrating a major milestone after winning Jacaranda FM’s prestigious Her Perfect Pitch competition. The initiative, launched by Jacaranda FM, aims to amplify female voices while empowering women-owned businesses with the tools, exposure, and mentorship needed to scale.

Founded by visionary entrepreneur Tinny Masesi Nkuna, Lindiwe Sanitary Pads was born out of a powerful mission: to combat period poverty and restore dignity to women and girls. The company addresses a harsh reality faced by many—young girls missing school or feeling excluded due to lack of access to menstrual products.

Despite facing early challenges such as navigating supplier networks, meeting compliance standards, and building a reliable stock system with limited resources, the company has grown into Africa’s first female-owned, large-scale industrial sanitary pad manufacturer. Today, it stands as a trusted partner to schools, NGOs, and community organisations, distributing millions of pads while creating economic opportunities for women across its value chain.

Winning Her Perfect Pitch represents more than just a trophy—it marks a turning point.

“It was more than an award; it was validation that our vision truly matters. It gave us credibility, momentum, and a platform to amplify the voices of women and girls.”

said Nkuna

The competition is designed to do more than recognise talent. It equips female founders with mentorship, advertising exposure, and strategic guidance to refine and grow their businesses. For Nkuna, it was the perfect platform to demonstrate that women-led manufacturing businesses can operate at industrial scale and compete in traditionally male-dominated sectors.

Reflecting on the inspiration behind the brand, Nkuna shared a bold vision: to reclaim the menstrual economy.

“For too long, menstruation has been commercialised and controlled by entities that don’t reflect women’s lived realities or reinvest in our communities. I wanted to disrupt that model,”.

she explained

Rather than building a small, symbolic solution, Lindiwe Sanitary Pads set out to create a large-scale operation capable of producing millions of pads. The goal was not just access, but ownership, economic inclusion, and systemic change—ensuring women are involved at every stage, from manufacturing to distribution.

Breaking into an established and competitive market came with significant hurdles. From funding constraints to regulatory barriers and limited access to procurement systems, Nkuna and her team had to remain resilient and strategic.

“Disrupting an established market is never comfortable. The status quo resists change. But we stayed committed to governance, compliance, and scale. We wanted to be big, industrial, and competitive.”

she noted

Her Perfect Pitch provided the perfect launchpad to accelerate this vision. As the winner, Lindiwe Sanitary Pads receives R500,000 worth of advertising on Jacaranda FM, including the creation of a bespoke radio campaign and digital amplification. The prize also includes a six-week mentorship programme covering business strategy, branding, research, and PR support, along with backing from Spar.

Nkuna believes initiatives like Her Perfect Pitch are critical in reshaping perceptions around women-owned businesses.

“They level the playing field by opening access to visibility, networks, and capital. They help shift the narrative from women-owned businesses being seen as small or informal to scalable and investable enterprises.”

she said

At the heart of her journey is a powerful lesson: taking up space.

“Taking up space is leadership, not arrogance. When women own the means of production, they influence access, pricing, employment, and dignity. That is how real change happens.”

Nkuna emphasised

For Lindiwe Sanitary Pads, this victory is just the beginning. The company is poised to expand its impact, continuing to fight period poverty while championing women’s empowerment and South African manufacturing excellence. With its growing reach and bold vision, the brand is helping ensure that no girl is left behind because of her period.
