Thrilled to revive another classic from Doc Mthalane and Madala Kunene together with Lungiswa Plaatjies, Echo Deep has announced the release of Masihlangeni (Stop the Killings) on 27 June 2025. The new version transforms the originally urgent message into a reflective, yet deeply moving, Amapiano remix.
Originally composed in the early 1990s by Mthalane and Kunene during a period of political unrest and violence between supporters of the ANC and IFP, the song carried a powerful plea for peace. The tragic clashes of 15 August 1990, claimed the lives of at least 150 people, underscoring the urgency of their message.
In this contemporary twist, Echo Deep sets a more relaxed tone while preserving the song’s poignant call for unity. Lungiswa Plaatjies’ soulful vocals breathe new life into the track, balancing history with a timeless sound that speaks to today’s listeners.
