South Africans know Siya Kolisi for bringing the heat on the rugby field. But when it comes to his latest collaboration with Nando’s, the Springbok captain is taking a surprisingly different approach: keeping things mild while bringing plenty of flavour to the table.
Introducing the limited-edition Nando’s Siya Sauce, a collaboration that combines local flavour, South African creativity and the country’s love for getting together over a good meal.
Unveiled on 31 October 2026 at the opening of Nando’s new bespoke restaurant in Stellenbosch, the sauce arrives in Nando’s restaurants nationwide from 3 November. And while it carries the name of one of South Africa’s most celebrated rugby figures, its appeal goes beyond the rugby crowd.

A Different Kind of Captain’s Pick
There is something refreshing about a collaboration that doesn’t try to make everything bigger, hotter or more extreme.
Developed alongside Siya and inspired by his personal taste preferences, the new sauce brings together rich garlic, bright citrus notes and a gentle smoky finish. It is deliberately mild, making it accessible to different palates and suitable for everything from a quick weekday meal to a full festive-season braai.
According to Kolisi, the process involved experimenting with different flavour combinations until they landed on something that felt right.
“Something I could eat every day, on pretty much everything,” .
he explained, describing the sauce that eventually won him over
It’s a simple idea, but one that fits comfortably into South African food culture, where the best meals are often less about complicated recipes and more about what everyone brings to the table.

Putting South African Creativity on the Bottle
Beyond the flavour, the collaboration also creates space for another South African talent to shine.
Pretoria-based illustrator Mpho Boshoga was brought on board to give the bottle its visual identity. Known for his expressive, street-culture-inspired artistic style, Boshoga brings a contemporary creative perspective to a campaign built around one of the country’s most recognisable sporting personalities.
For the illustrator, the opportunity represents more than simply putting artwork on packaging. It is a chance to bring his creativity into a mainstream cultural conversation alongside two established South African names.
His involvement also connects with Nando’s long-standing relationship with local artists, having consistently used its restaurants and brand platforms to showcase South African creative expression.
It’s a reminder that collaborations can do more than sell products. They can also create opportunities for emerging and established creatives to reach audiences they might not otherwise access.

The Real Secret Is Who Sits Around the Table
The campaign’s bigger message is rooted in something South Africans understand instinctively: nobody gets anywhere entirely on their own.
Whether it’s the support system behind a rugby champion, friends gathering after a long week or family coming together for December lunch, shared experiences are often what make the moments memorable.
To bring that spirit to life, Nando’s filmed a campaign featuring some of Siya’s real-life friends, including Siv Ngesi, Sobantu Nqayi, Ray Malo, Vafa Naraghi, Nina Hastie, Jam Jam and Anton Taylor.
The advert captures the playful banter, unpredictable conversations and familiar chaos that come with getting people around the same table.
It feels particularly fitting for a South African festive season, when food, friendship and spontaneous gatherings become part of the country’s unofficial December soundtrack.

A Little Extra Flavour for December
Nando’s is making the Siya Sauce available free at its restaurants nationwide for a limited time, while stocks last.
That makes this less about adding another expensive product to the festive shopping list and more about giving customers something new to experience when they visit.
Ultimately, the Nando’s Siya Sauce is a meeting point between sport, food, art and community. It brings together a national sporting icon, a local illustrator and a brand with a long history of celebrating South African identity.
And perhaps that’s the most interesting part of this collaboration: the sauce might carry Siya Kolisi‘s name, but its story belongs to everyone around the table.
The Nando’s Siya Sauce launches on 3 November 2026 and will be available exclusively at Nando’s restaurants nationwide, for a limited time and while stocks last.
