National Geographic Africa Launches “Explorers Xplored” – A Bold New Series Celebrating African Changemakers
National Geographic Society has taken another powerful step in amplifying African voices with the launch of its new digital content series, “Explorers Xplored.” Spearheaded by National Geographic Africa, the initiative shines a spotlight on African explorers whose work is shaping the future of conservation, science, and storytelling.
The series celebrates individuals who are not only experts in their fields but are also driven by a deep sense of purpose. These explorers are tackling some of the world’s most pressing challenges—from protecting endangered wildlife and ecosystems to uncovering the mysteries of our planet’s past and advancing cutting-edge research.

Across oceans, caves, savannahs, and communities, these changemakers are redefining what it means to explore. They are united by a vision of a better world—and the courage to make it happen.
A Platform for African Stories
“Explorers Xplored” is a short-form online video series designed to highlight both emerging and established African explorers. The series goes beyond their work, offering an intimate look at the people behind the impact.

By sharing stories rooted in local knowledge and lived experience, the series elevates African perspectives in global conversations around conservation, education, science, and history. It reinforces the idea that solutions to global challenges often begin with community-driven insights.
Meet the Featured Explorers
The first three episodes of the series are now available, each profiling an inspiring individual:

A Legacy of Exploration and Impact
For over a century, the National Geographic Society has been at the forefront of exploration and education. Since its founding in 1888, it has funded more than 15,000 grants across all seven continents and continues to inspire millions through its educational programmes.
With “Explorers Xplored,” the organisation builds on this legacy by ensuring African explorers are not only supported—but seen, heard, and celebrated on a global stage.
Why This Series Matters
At a time when the world faces complex environmental and social challenges, storytelling has never been more important. This series serves as a reminder that Africa is not just a place of challenges—but a hub of innovation, resilience, and leadership.

By putting African explorers front and centre, “Explorers Xplored” is helping to reshape narratives, inspire the next generation, and drive meaningful change.
