PUMA x BVB Honour Dortmund’s Industrial Legacy With New 2026/27 Home Kit

Global sportswear giant PUMA and German football powerhouse Borussia Dortmund have officially unveiled the club’s striking new 2026/27 home kit — a jersey deeply inspired by the industrial heart and resilient spirit of Dortmund.

The latest BVB home shirt pays tribute to the steel, coal, and concrete foundations that shaped the city and helped forge one of world football’s most passionate clubs. Blending history with innovation, the new design captures Dortmund’s unmistakable identity both on and off the pitch.

At the centre of the jersey’s design is a bold graphic pattern inspired by two iconic Dortmund landmarks: the historic Minister Stein colliery, commemorating 40 years since its closure, and the famous Dortmunder U cultural landmark, which celebrates its 100th anniversary this year. Together, the landmarks symbolise Dortmund’s ability to evolve while remaining proud of its roots.

The traditional BVB yellow is elevated through sophisticated structural detailing that mirrors the industrial architecture and skyline of the city. The result is a modern yet deeply nostalgic kit that proudly reflects Borussia Dortmund’s working-class heritage and fearless football culture.

To accompany the launch, PUMA and BVB introduced an ambitious campaign titled Built Like Dortmund. The campaign blends reality and artificial intelligence by creating a futuristic AI-generated world inspired by the city’s industrial landscape. Players were photographed on specially designed real-world sets that mirrored the digital environment, creating a visually powerful connection between Dortmund’s past, present, and future.

The launch celebrations took place from 7 to 9 May and included a series of exclusive events. The festivities began at the legendary Kokerei Hansa industrial complex, where 300 invited guests witnessed a spectacular light-mapping presentation illuminating the historic venue. The jersey then made its on-pitch debut during Borussia Dortmund’s final home fixture of the season at Signal Iduna Park. The celebrations concluded with a unique 15-versus-15 influencer and media football match staged inside the iconic stadium.

Maria Kiebacher, PUMA Director of Product Line Management Teamsport Apparel, described the launch as more than just another football shirt release.

“BVB is different, and this kit reflects that. Dortmund is a city built on steel and ambition, and everything about this design honours that. PUMA and BVB have created something that goes beyond a kit launch. It is a celebration of a city, a club, and a fanbase unlike any other in football.”

Kerstin Zerbe, Managing Director of BVB Merchandising GmbH, added that the jersey perfectly captures Dortmund’s enduring identity and transformation.

“This jersey embodies Dortmund – the city’s landmarks, history and constant change are reflected in its design. When our players step onto the pitch wearing it, they represent not only BVB and Dortmund but also stand for tradition and transformation.”

Beyond aesthetics, the new kit also delivers cutting-edge performance innovation. The Authentic version features PUMA’s advanced ULTRAWEAVE fabric technology, designed to provide ultra-lightweight comfort and unrestricted movement. It also includes dryCELL and ThermoAdapt technologies to regulate body temperature and manage moisture during intense matches.

Meanwhile, the Replica jersey combines the same visual design with a more relaxed fit and incorporates RE:FIBRE technology, using 95% recycled polyester sourced from textile waste, reinforcing PUMA’s growing commitment to sustainability.
