Bobby van Jaarsveld Explores Vietnam in Search of Tropika’s Next Island Paradise
The search for the perfect tropical destination for Season 12 of Tropika Island of Treasure is officially underway, and this week’s episode of Tropika Island Search sees South African singer and fan-favourite Bobby van Jaarsveld heading to the breathtaking landscapes of Vietnam.
From pristine beaches and world-class diving spots to vibrant street markets and iconic landmarks, Bobby explored everything the Southeast Asian hotspot has to offer to determine whether Vietnam has what it takes to become the next island paradise for the hit reality competition series.
For Bobby, the trip was a dream come true from the moment he landed.
“I have always wanted to visit Vietnam, so my first thought after landing was that I can’t believe that I am finally ticking that box off my bucket list. It’s an incredibly beautiful place. The people are so friendly and there is just this amazing vibe throughout the country.”

Vietnam’s growing popularity among South African travellers is no surprise to Bobby, who believes the destination offers the perfect balance of affordability, culture and island adventure.
“As South Africans, we love beaches and island vibes and Vietnam has some incredible ones,”.

During his adventure, Bobby immersed himself in the country’s rich culture and thrilling experiences. From kayaking through scenic waters and exploring bustling local markets to tasting authentic street food and visiting ancient temples, every moment added to the appeal of Vietnam as a potential host destination for the new season.
One standout experience for the musician was diving in Vietnam’s crystal-clear waters.
“I got to swim next to some incredible marine life which was definitely a highlight of my visit. The water there and their diving facilities are world-class.”

Asked what makes Vietnam an ideal choice for Tropika Island of Treasure, Bobby believes the country ticks every box needed for an unforgettable season.
“It’s got stunning beaches, beautiful resorts, an incredible history and a wonderful culture. It’s also the perfect playground to host challenges there.”

If Bobby had only 24 hours to show someone the best of Vietnam, his itinerary would include visiting the country’s iconic temples, stopping at the famous Golden Bridge, taking a ride on Vietnam’s unique basket boats, and ending the day relaxing on the beach while enjoying delicious local cuisine.
Beyond exploring Vietnam, Bobby also reflected on his own experience competing on the previous season of Tropika Island of Treasure. While he loved every moment of the competition, he admits he underestimated the intensity of the challenges and mind games involved.
“It was an amazing experience and one I would do over and over again. I made great friends with some of the contestants and even the crew. Everyone was so lekker and fun to work with.”

With auditions now officially open for Season 12, Bobby also encouraged hopeful contestants to stay authentic when creating their audition videos.
“Just be yourself. Be authentic. Showcase your strengths, whether it’s physical or mental strength. And just be a lekker person – that’s what will grab the attention of the casting crew.”

Auditions for Tropika Island of Treasure Season 12 Are Now Open
While the hunt for the ultimate island destination continues, Tropika is also searching for eight members of the public to join the celebrity contestants in the upcoming season.
Contestants can upload their audition videos on TikTok, Facebook, X or Instagram by tagging @MyTropika and using the hashtag #Tropika. Finalists stand a chance to compete for a share of R1 million and receive a R10,000 Pep shopping voucher to prepare for island life in style.
Auditions close on 5 May 2026.
