Sometimes, the biggest journey is the one that takes you back to yourself.
South African media personality Sidwell “Psyfo” Ngwenya is stepping away from the familiar noise of everyday life to explore identity, purpose and personal growth through #SouthernExploration, a new multimedia project combining solo travel, documentary storytelling, music and self-reflection.

Announced by independent record label SID Records on 14 October 2026, the project follows Sidwell on a solo road journey through South Africa, using the country’s landscapes, local communities and unexpected discoveries as a backdrop for a more personal story.
It’s a different kind of road trip, one that looks beyond the destinations and asks what happens when you finally give yourself the space to think.
Finding Perspective Beyond the Everyday Noise
In a world where digital connectivity rarely switches off, finding time to slow down and reflect can be difficult. #SouthernExploration aims to create that space by encouraging people to reconnect with their values, recognise their strengths and reconsider their sense of purpose.
For Sidwell, the journey was also an opportunity to reflect on his career, both in front of and behind the camera.
“Southern Exploration for me is a moment of peace to be myself again, away from the noise,” he explains.
He describes the experience as therapeutic, giving him time away from friends and family to search for answers, some of which he is still working through.
Despite having travelled extensively across South Africa and covered approximately 70% of the country, Sidwell says the journey still introduced him to places that left a lasting impression. Among them were Graaff-Reinet, home to the striking Valley of Desolation, and Oudtshoorn, where the Cango Caves offer an extraordinary underground landscape.
These destinations provide more than scenery. Within the context of #SouthernExploration, they become part of a wider experience centred on solitude, perspective and discovering something new about yourself along the way.
A Personal Journey Told Through Film and Music
What makes #SouthernExploration particularly interesting is how Sidwell brings his creative experience together across different disciplines.
The project is built around a digital docu-reality series, supported by a self-exploration framework, music and video content. Rather than treating these as separate creative outputs, the project connects them through one central idea: understanding yourself through experience.
The documentary follows the journey itself, while the accompanying framework encourages viewers to apply elements of that experience to their own lives. The approach centres on three principles: conscious self-exploration, structured reflection and aligned action.
Alongside the series, an upcoming EP will explore a different side of the project. Where the travel experience creates room for solitude, the music celebrates collaboration, bringing together artists Sidwell has previously worked with in production, as well as an additional act expected to surprise followers.
“The music is very mature and global as it fuses different genres to come up with something unique,” says Sidwell.
It’s a natural meeting point between his experience in visual storytelling and music production, allowing both worlds to contribute to a more personal creative statement.
When the Journey Becomes Something Others Can Use
Beyond documenting one person’s experience, #SouthernExploration aims to give audiences practical ways to approach their own self-discovery.nThe project is positioned as an open-access resource for people experiencing burnout, feeling disconnected from their purpose or simply looking for a different perspective on life.
Its self-exploration framework is intended to help people reflect on who they are, identify what matters to them and take action that better aligns with their values. That doesn’t mean every question needs an immediate answer. As Sidwell’s own experience suggests, some discoveries take time, and the process can be just as important as the destination.
For audiences accustomed to seeing polished highlights of other people’s lives online, that honesty could be one of the project’s most relatable elements.
Where to Watch #SouthernExploration
The digital docu-reality series is scheduled to roll out through weekly episodes during the week commencing 12 October 2026.
Audiences can follow the journey on Sidwell’s Instagram account, @iammrcroc, and the official #SidwellsPOV YouTube channel. The accompanying EP is also in development, with further musical collaborations forming part of the project.
#SouthernExploration operates under SID Records, an independent record label established in 2005. The label has collaborated with South African artists such as Mandoza, Lebo Mathosa, Lulo Café, Speedsta, Thabsie, and Kwesta. Its services have expanded beyond music production to include event management, artist management, and music consultancy.
The ULSA Take
#SouthernExploration arrives with an idea worth exploring: sometimes, stepping away from the usual routine can help you see your life differently.
By combining South African travel, personal storytelling and music, Sidwell “Psyfo” Ngwenya is turning a private process of reflection into a creative experience that audiences can follow and interpret for themselves.
The open road provides the setting, but the real subject is what happens when the distractions fall away and you finally have time to listen to yourself.
