DaniMali Honors Legacy and Knowledge at UNISA’s Miriam Makeba Hall – 27 July Jazz Dialogues Tour Stop
As the Dialogues Across Provinces Tour gains momentum, acclaimed saxophonist and composer Nhlanhla Mahlangu and his celebrated jazz ensemble DaniMali make a significant stop at UNISA’s Miriam Makeba Hall in Pretoria on 27 July 2025. This performance forms part of their five-date national tour that bridges communities, provinces, and generations through the transformative power of Afro-Jazz.
The choice of venue—Miriam Makeba Hall—holds deep symbolic resonance. Named after the legendary Mama Africa, the hall embodies South Africa’s commitment to arts, activism, and education. It serves as a fitting backdrop for a performance that not only entertains but educates and inspires.
“Performing at Miriam Makeba Hall is about more than music—it’s about honouring those who paved the way and continuing the dialogue between art, culture, and learning. UNISA’s role in shaping minds aligns perfectly with our vision of jazz as a living language of memory and unity.”
said Mahlangu
This special performance also highlights the support of the University of South Africa (UNISA) in the tour’s development, underscoring the importance of academic institutions in preserving and promoting indigenous knowledge systems through the arts.
The tour is made possible through support from Concerts SA, the Hugh Masekela Heritage Foundation, DaniMali NPC, Makhubeng Music, and Urban Zulu, with additional funding from SAMRO, the National Treasury Jobs Fund, and the Music Mobility Fund.
With a performance that merges story, rhythm, and reflection, this stop on the tour invites Pretoria’s audiences—students, artists, and lovers of jazz—to witness a vibrant dialogue in motion.
