On 31 July 2025, World Barista Champion Mikael Jasin teams up with SA Chef of the Year Johannes Richter for a never-before-seen OMAKASE experience, hosted by Creative Coffee Events in partnership with FNB. This is no ordinary tasting — it’s a multi-sensory adventure that brings together two masters of their craft for a once-in-a-lifetime performance of flavour, precision, and artistry.
At the heart of this event is the Omakase concept — a Japanese term meaning “I’ll leave it up to you” — where guests place full trust in the creators. For this exclusive occasion, Mikael Jasin and his team from Indonesia introduce Omakafé, their signature twist that blends the finesse of coffee craftsmanship with the curated spontaneity of fine dining.
And to elevate this journey even further, Mikael will be joined by Georgius “Odi” Teja, the newly crowned 2025 World Coffee in Good Spirits Champion. Alongside Chef Johannes Richter — the innovative mind behind The LivingRoom, Eat Out’s top fine dining spot in KZN — the trio will lead guests through a guided, immersive pairing of world-class coffee and uniquely South African dishes.
Each session will seat only 10 guests, making it an incredibly intimate and rare experience. No menu will be repeated, and no pairing will be recreated — this is a one-day-only event, designed to be unforgettable.
Meet the Masters Behind the Magic
Mikael Jasin
2024 World Barista Champion and three-time Indonesian champion, Mikael is a visionary in the specialty coffee world. He co-owns So So Good Coffee Company and CATUR Coffee Company, where he pioneers innovative brewing techniques and champions Indonesian coffee on the global stage. With Omakafé, he brings his signature omakase-style beverage experience to South Africa for the first time.
Chef Johannes Richter
German-born and Durban-raised, Chef Johannes is the co-owner of The LivingRoom at Summerhill Guest Estate. He blends classical Michelin-star training with a deep love for KZN’s ingredients and traditions. His accolades include Eat Out Woolworths Chef of the Year 2025, The Best Chef Awards Knife Recipient, and numerous sustainability recognitions — all thanks to his unwavering commitment to excellence and identity-driven cuisine.
