Calling SA’s Fearless Entrepreneurs: R800K Up for Grabs in Engen The Making Of Season 2

After a dramatic debut season that captivated over 2.3 million viewers, Engen The Making Of returns for Season 2 – and it’s bigger, bolder, and even more competitive. With R800 000 in prize money on the line, this isn’t just a reality show – it’s a real-world business battleground for South Africa’s most fearless entrepreneurs.

One Epic Competition. Ten Bold Entrepreneurs.

Once again proudly sponsored by Engen and powered by Raizcorp, The Making Of challenges ten South African entrepreneurs to conceptualise, develop, and pitch innovative, problem-solving products or services – all within just four hours.

“This isn’t theory – it’s execution under pressure. It reflects the true challenges of entrepreneurship in today’s economy.”

says Allon Raiz, serial entrepreneur and CEO of Raizcorp

Each episode presents a new industry-specific challenge. Contestants must ideate, brand, prototype, and test their solutions with real customers – all while racing against the clock. It’s fast-paced, high-stakes, and deeply rooted in the real-world demands of starting and scaling a business.

High Pressure, High Reward

With R100 000 up for grabs in every episode, the winning team walks away with a shared cash prize. But as the competition intensifies and contestants are eliminated by judges or their own teammates, only one entrepreneur will remain standing in the final episode to claim the full R100 000.

Last season’s winner, Mongezi Masombuka, a 31-year-old IT entrepreneur, proved that resilience pays off – even bouncing back after an early elimination to win R225 000.

“Winning The Making Of was a turning point in my entrepreneurial journey. It wasn’t just the prize – it was the exposure, the growth, and the boost in confidence that helped me elevate my business.”

says Mongezi

More Than Just a Show

Serving as a practical, real-time business masterclass, The Making Of is led by judge and branding expert Heidi Brauer. From financial viability to customer insights and branding execution, each episode teaches viewers how to think like entrepreneurs and execute under pressure.

According to Sim Manqina, Engen’s Manager for Transformation & Stakeholder Engagement, the show has a broader mission:

“TMO gives the public an authentic glimpse into entrepreneurship and the kind of decisions that make or break businesses. It’s about inspiring and educating beyond the boardroom.”

And it’s not just the contestants who win – viewers at home stand a chance to win R5 000 in Engen vouchers every episode just by watching and entering.
