Ansu Viljoen Gets Real on The Mommy Club: Van Die Hoofstad
Showmax’s The Mommy Club: Van Die Hoofstad has quickly become a must-watch for fans of real, raw, and unfiltered stories about motherhood, friendship, and the highs and lows of living in the spotlight. This new Afrikaans reality series brings together five powerful moms from the capital city – Ansu Viljoen, Crystal Van Der Burgh, Johandri Johnson, Louise Volschenk, and Tessa Tullues – each navigating life, family, and their individual legacies.
We caught up with Ansu Viljoen for an exclusive look behind the scenes, where she opened up about her personal journey on the show, her dynamic with the other moms, and the lessons she’s taken from the experience.
“It was a rollercoaster” – Filming the Show
For Ansu, filming The Mommy Club wasn’t all glitz and glam.
“There were days filled with laughter and special moments, but also tough days that tested my strength. It was challenging for both me and my family, but ultimately, it brought us closer together.”
she shared
With a busy household that includes two toddlers, a husband running a business, and her own work as a locum vet, balancing life and filming was no easy task. But for Ansu, the experience deepened her appreciation for family and reminded her of what truly matters.
Friendship, Loyalty, and Drama
Ansu’s longtime friendship with co-star Crystal Van Der Burgh remained a steady anchor throughout the season.
“Crystal has been one of my best friends for years,”.
she said
However, not all relationships on the show came so easily.
While she initially hoped for meaningful bonds, particularly with Johandri Johnson, Ansu admitted the group dynamic often led to misunderstandings.
“Trust is the foundation of any relationship. Looking back, I’ve realised that not everyone is meant to be in your inner circle – and that’s perfectly okay.”
she noted
When asked if there were cast members she didn’t connect with, Ansu responded with honesty:
“Certain dynamics made it hard. I believe in mutual respect and honesty in friendships. When I noticed patterns of disloyalty, I chose to step back.”
Surprises, Struggles, and Standing Her Ground
The biggest surprise for Ansu?
“Seeing how quickly people could turn on each other. What disappointed me most was seeing moms shame other moms. We know how tough motherhood is – we should be building each other up.”
She also opened up about the pressure to stay silent.
“If I could do it over, I would’ve trusted my instincts more and spoken up sooner. But I also believe everything happens for a reason. I stayed true to myself, my values, and what I believe in.”
Why You Should Watch

Ansu says
Whether you’re a mom, a working professional, or someone just trying to figure things out, Ansu believes this show will resonate.
“It’s a journey worth watching.”
