Skipper Bar x adidas Launch ‘We Own The Streets’

South African street culture takes centre stage as adidas and Skipper Bar officially launch We Own The Streets, a powerful campaign celebrating the creators, innovators, and leaders shaping township culture from the ground up.

Rooted in authentic kasi communities, the campaign shines a spotlight on individuals who continue to influence style, entrepreneurship, and youth culture while paving the way for the next generation of changemakers. More than just a campaign, We Own The Streets is positioned as a celebration of ownership — ownership of culture, identity, confidence, and the streets that inspire South Africa’s unique creative energy.

At the heart of the campaign are three influential figures whose impact continues to redefine township economies and community-driven innovation:

  • Luvuyo Rani
  • Godiragetse “Godi” Mogajane
  • Bulelani Balabala

According to Kaboomo Mgibi-Marshoff, the campaign aims to shift attention back to the communities that have built and sustained street culture for generations.

“Street culture is not borrowed; it is built, lived, and owned by the communities that created it. With this campaign, we are shifting the focus to community-led stories and celebrating authentic kasi pride.”

says Mgibi-Marshoff

A major highlight of We Own The Streets is its One To Watch initiative, where each icon nominates a rising entrepreneur believed to represent the future of township culture and innovation.

Godi Mogajane recognised Tsholofelo Monyapao for his dedication and role in helping grow Delivery Ka Speed, praising his resilience and relentless work ethic.

Luvuyo Rani honoured Sindile Mavundla, founder of Khaltsha Cycles, for driving accessible and sustainable transport solutions through entrepreneurship and innovation.

Meanwhile, Bulelani Balabala selected Patric Thokkie, founder of Lifeway Imphatho Brands and creator of the popular Loxion Fruit Juice range, as a standout example of township-born success reaching national recognition.

“These One To Watch nominees will be recognised and equipped to continue showing up and owning their streets,”.

added Mgibi-Marshoff

Nimisha Ghela says the campaign reinforces the importance of passing influence and opportunity from one generation to the next.

“At adidas, we believe that true icons do not gatekeep influence — they pass it on. This campaign is about celebrating that exchange between generations.”

says Ghela

Through storytelling rooted in authenticity, We Own The Streets positions township streets as more than physical spaces. They become symbols of ambition, creativity, resilience, and future-shaping ideas driven by the communities that live, build, and lead within them.
