Zizipho Buti Stars in “Soft Life,” Coming to Showmax this November
Showmax has dropped an exciting first-look teaser of Zizipho Buti in the highly anticipated series Soft Life, set to premiere on 18 November 2024, with new episodes every Monday. The drama promises to delve deep into the complexities of secret lives, societal pressures, and hidden truths.
In Soft Life, Zizipho Buti plays Owami Gqoji, a young woman who finds herself navigating the risky world of high-society companionship in a desperate attempt to settle her mother’s medical bills. Owami must juggle the weight of her secret profession while fearing the impact it could have on her life and relationships.
“Owami has made me realise that there are so many young people who have found themselves in such compromising situations. I hope that the story will encourage people to have honest conversations about this.”
Reflecting on her character, Zizipho notes,
Zizipho first captured audiences on the Mzansi Magic series Nkululeko and later appeared on the popular soapie Generations: The Legacy, establishing herself as a rising star in South Africa’s television landscape.
Joining Zizipho in the cast are some of the industry’s finest talents, including:
- Mampho Brescia (known for her role as Iris in Isibaya), who plays Zam, the owner of NubiaBlaq, a business that serves as a front for her elite escort agency, The Girlfriend Experience (GFE). Zam is a powerful and sophisticated figure who runs her operation with a no-nonsense attitude.
- Katlego Lebogang (Spinners) portrays Zinhle, the Queen Bee at GFE and Owami’s mentor, guiding her through the complexities of this secretive world.
- SAFTA winner Nambitha Mpumlwana (Saints & Sinners, Yizo Yizo, Tsotsi) stars as Judge Iris Makhaza, the overprotective mother of Owami’s boyfriend, adding further tension to the drama.
Created by Vusi Zion for Afriprime, Soft Life is a 13-episode series produced by Urban Brew Studios. Directed by SAFTA winners Nozipho Nkelemba (Gomora, Umakoti Wethu) and Nthabiseng Mokoena (Law, Love and Betrayal, The Wife), the show promises to be an honest reflection of contemporary societal issues.
“Soft Life is a forward-thinking show where we are dealing with everyday issues happening in society, holding up a mirror to the public. It was interesting for me to see how far this subculture has grown since my younger days and how it’s shown so openly now.”
Nozipho explains,
“The cast really immersed themselves in the characters they portrayed; it was awesome to see what they are capable of. More than anything, viewers should also look forward to the new faces who will bring much joy, laughter, and sometimes heartache to our screens.”
Nthabiseng adds,
With an ensemble cast and a gripping narrative, Soft Life promises to be a show that sparks conversation and resonates with audiences.
