Entries Open for the 2026 Diners Club SA Barista of the Year Competition
Entries are officially open for the 2026 edition of the prestigious Diners Club South Africa Barista of the Year competition, inviting coffee shops nationwide to showcase their finest talent. Since opening on 19 March, establishments have until 31 May to nominate their standout baristas in a celebration of skill, creativity, and passion for exceptional coffee.
Now in its fourth year, the competition continues to gain momentum, solidifying its place as a key platform for recognising excellence within South Africa’s thriving coffee culture. More than just a contest, it highlights the baristas who elevate everyday coffee moments into memorable experiences—true “day makers” within their communities.
The competition offers a unique opportunity for coffee shops to build brand visibility while celebrating their teams. With no entry fee required, businesses can nominate their top baristas and benefit from increased exposure, enhanced reputation, and stronger customer engagement.
Participating venues will receive a branded QR code to display in-store, allowing customers to vote for their favourite barista. Voting will run from 17 June to 17 July, seamlessly integrated into the customer journey, with one vote allocated per till slip. Throughout this period, Diners Club South Africa will amplify the competition across its digital platforms, encouraging coffee lovers to explore local cafés and support their preferred baristas.
Following the voting phase, results will be verified and tallied, leading to the announcement of eight finalists in August. One exceptional barista will ultimately be crowned the 2026 Diners Club SA Barista of the Year, taking home a R20,000 cash prize along with a trophy to be proudly displayed at their coffee shop.
In addition to the grand prize, the winner and their establishment will receive valuable media exposure, including a featured video interview across Diners Club’s social media platforms and editorial coverage in Signature Magazine.
As the competition grows year after year, it continues to inspire excellence and strengthen the sense of community within South Africa’s coffee industry—bringing baristas, businesses, and coffee lovers together in celebration of craft and connection.
