Cape Town is set to shine on the global stage as LUMENOCITY unveils an exciting line-up of South African artists for the city’s first immersive light festival. Taking place from April 9–12 at Company’s Garden, the festival transforms the historic space into a breathtaking showcase of light, art and technology.
Bringing together a curated mix of emerging and established creatives, LUMENOCITY celebrates the power of light as both a medium and message. Visitors can expect a dynamic blend of sculpture, projection mapping, digital art and interactive installations that turn the garden into a living canvas after dark.

Among the highlights is acclaimed multidisciplinary artist Russell Abrahams, also known as Yay Abe, who will debut a specially created projection mapping piece. His work reflects the evolving nature of art in the digital age, where architecture becomes a storytelling platform through light, colour and motion.

Festival founder Gareth Hadden describes the event as more than just a spectacle. It is a platform designed to unite artists, foster collaboration and position Cape Town as a leading destination for immersive cultural experiences.

The artist line-up includes talented creatives such as Byron Eksteen, Gabriella Degois, Imraan Christian, Inka Kendzia, Joshua Botha, Kate White, Mpho Jacobs, Philip van Heerden, Rabatho Laka, Rufaro Magara, Shana Ellappa and Thom Dreyer. They are joined by top studios and collaborators like Water Dixon, Magpie Collective, Fabric, Beanstalk, Thingking and Showtex, all contributing to large-scale installations and interactive works.
Festival-goers can explore standout attractions including the towering 10-metre “Halo Chamber” and a series of immersive environments designed to invite participation and engagement. Supported by partners like City of Cape Town and Iziko Museums of South Africa, the festival blends cutting-edge technology with artistic vision.

Presented in partnership with Kfm 94.5 and driven by MINI, LUMENOCITY places Cape Town alongside global light festivals such as Amsterdam Light Festival, Fête des Lumières and Vivid Sydney.
With its fusion of innovation, creativity and cultural storytelling, LUMENOCITY promises to redefine how public spaces are experienced—cementing Cape Town’s place as a global hub for immersive art.
