Dubai-based DJ and producer ELEVEN (FR) makes his debut on Sondela Recordings with Zama, featuring the soulful vocals of South African artist Thandi Draai. This marks the first release on the label for both artists, though Thandi has long been connected to Sondela, notably performing at their Amsterdam showcase in 2022.
The release features two versions:
- Zama (Extended Mix) – a melodic, piano-driven cut where Thandi’s emotive voice captures vulnerability and strength.
- Zama (Extended Club Mix) – a high-energy rework designed for the dancefloor, balancing intensity with lyrical depth.
At its heart, Zama is a song about resilience. Drawing from the term zama zamas—South Africa’s illegal miners who “take a chance” in search of hidden treasures—the track becomes a metaphor for life’s struggles and triumphs. Just as these miners persist despite the odds, Zama encourages listeners to endure challenges, rise above adversity, and trust in their divine path.
With Zama, ELEVEN (FR) and Thandi Draai deliver a release that is both deeply spiritual and dancefloor-ready—an inspiring debut for their Sondela journey.
