South African hip-hop artist, songwriter, executive producer, and entrepreneur Teejay Mokoena has unveiled a deeply personal new single entitled WISHES—a moving tribute to his late brother, Sifiso. The track not only highlights Mokoena’s lyrical depth and maturity but also affirms his mission to transcend Africa’s borders and establish himself on the global stage.
A Tribute Through Music
WISHES is an emotionally charged track inspired by a pivotal moment in Mokoena’s youth. Reflecting on his brother’s influence, he shares:
“Sifiso is the reason I am who I am. I am my brother’s legacy. In 2009, he rapped in front of me, and that moment sparked something powerful within me. It gave me the belief that my wishes would find me. I can’t stop. I won’t stop. That was his wish for me.”
This release follows the collaborative single Chosen Milano, featuring Touchline, Stino Le Thwenny, and Sixby9ine—a record praised for its sharp lyricism and standout production.
From Breakthrough to Boardroom
Mokoena first broke onto the national scene in 2021 with his feature on DJ Speedsta’s The Chosen One alongside Yanga Chief. The track introduced him to a wider audience, marking a pivotal moment in his career.
In 2022, he expanded his role in music by co-founding Evolving Music Group, an independent label, where he now serves as CEO and President. Under his leadership, the label has flourished, signing Oxii Moron—an R&B artist who has become one of South Africa’s most-streamed talents across multiple markets.
Evolving Music Group has also secured strategic partnerships with SOL Distro, Africa Creative Agency, and Virgin Music Group South Africa, ensuring strong foundations in distribution, sync licensing, and publishing.
A Vision Beyond Borders
Teejay Mokoena’s dual role as both artist and executive underscores a bigger mission: to amplify African music on the world stage while safeguarding creative ownership for artists. His journey reflects resilience, innovation, and purpose—qualities that continue to propel him forward.
With WISHES and Chosen Milano gaining momentum, Mokoena is more than an artist—he’s a visionary shaping the future of African music, with a legacy that promises to reach far beyond the continent.
