Showmax has unveiled the much-anticipated trailer for Youngins Season 3 — the teen drama that holds the record for the most first-day views of any series on the African streamer since its relaunch.
Since its debut, the award-winning series has become a fan favourite for introducing fresh talent and paving the way for rising stars like Ayakha Ntunja (Inimba) and Kealeboga Masango (Genesis). Now, as the Olifants 5 and their friends gear up for their last adventure, the final season will premiere on 19 September 2025, with three new episodes dropping weekly.

We caught up with actress and casting director Keneilwe Matidze — better known to fans as Pearl, the vivacious Life Orientation teacher — who was responsible for assembling the show’s dynamic teen cast across all three seasons.
A Casting Journey Full of Energy and Heart
Matidze, who has also worked on Adulting, Outlaws, and Law, Love & Betrayal, recalls the buzz of Youngins auditions:
“The energy was electric. Kids came from 8am to 8pm, and by the end, we were all dancing outside together. I knew right then this would be a hit.”
From Lebogang Lephotsoana’s infectious energy as Tumelo to Thabiso Ramotshela’s raw emotional depth as Mahlatse, each casting choice was deliberate, blending talent, personality, and chemistry. Matidze also praised Tshepo Matlala’s theatre-trained physicality, which brought extra humour and depth to his role.

Breaking Ground in Representation
Youngins has been widely praised for its authentic queer representation. Casting Tabile Tau (Sefako) and Lephotsoana (Tumelo) was about building trust and on-screen comfort, resulting in genuine, heartfelt performances.
Matidze shared a particularly memorable audition moment when Katlego Moloke, who plays Alex, candidly revealed his identity, leading to a more nuanced character portrayal.
“It reminded me how much South Africa has changed,”.
she says
More Than Just Characters
The friendships forged on screen often extended off-set, with actors like Amogelang Telekelo (Palesa) showing immense grace in tackling complex, sometimes controversial storylines.
As Youngins approaches its conclusion, fans can expect an emotional, high-energy farewell that stays true to the heart of the series.

Catch Youngins Season 3 on Showmax from 19 September 2025, and re-watch Seasons 1 and 2 to relive the journey. Season 1 is also currently airing on Mzansi Wethu, DStv Channel 163, every Wednesday to Friday at 19:00.
