Charles Petersohn returns with a mesmerizing new release, Children Of Zu Zu (Release Date: 28 February 2025), the title track from his forthcoming Children Of Zu Zu EP, set to drop in mid-March 2025 via Compost Records. Marking his first official label release in 18 years, Petersohn crafts a deep and soulful sonic journey, blending deep house grooves with organic Afro influences, jazz textures, and cosmic atmospheres.

The lead single, Children Of Zu Zu, is a mellow yet immersive deep house track that drifts effortlessly on smooth, rhythmic currents. Featuring the voices of the People of Tala’aga (Samoa) and delicate Rhodes pads by Roberto Di Gioia (Marsmobil, Web Web), the track exudes warmth, depth, and an ethereal quality. This EP is a fresh start for Charles Petersohn after nearly two decades away from label releases, aside from select experiments on Bandcamp and SoundCloud. Children Of Zu Zu EP is a fusion of styles, where deep house meets jazz, African rhythms, Brazilian batucada, psychedelic funk poetry, and cosmic soundscapes. Inspired by the avant-garde spirit of Sun Ra and his Arkestra, as well as the raw energy of Dr. John, the EP is a sonic collage that pushes boundaries while remaining deeply soulful.
Petersohn’s meticulous approach to sound design meant the project took time to complete. Securing the contribution of Roberto Di Gioia was a key part of the vision, and the patience paid off—Di Gioia’s magical Rhodes touches add a timeless quality to the music. Known for his perfectionism, Petersohn ensures that every detail of the EP resonates with his artistic vision before releasing it into the world.
