Duncan Releases Highly Anticipated New Album, Incwadi Yezono

After nearly eight years since his last solo album, Durban-based rapper Duncan has finally returned with his much-awaited project, Incwadi Yezono, which officially dropped today. This release marks a significant moment in the rapper’s career, as he comes back stronger with 20 fresh tracks that showcase his growth as an artist and storyteller.

Duncan first broke into the music industry with his debut album Street Government in 2014, followed by his sophomore project Balaclava in 2016. In May 2020, he joined forces with his close friend Zakwe for a joint self-titled album, further cementing his reputation as a lyrical powerhouse. Now, with Incwadi Yezono, Duncan takes his art to new heights, blending his signature style with Afro-pop beats that appeal to both long-time fans and new listeners.

The album features collaborations with some of South Africa‘s top talents, including Zakwe, DJ Tira, Bongo Riot, Qwabe Twins, Aubrey Qwana, Azana, Intaba YaseDubai, Nana Atta, Fezeka Dlamini, and Nhlanhla Mhlongo, making it an even more exciting body of work.

“I know it’s been a long time coming, but there was an unfortunate incident that happened when I was working on the album a few years ago. Scelo Gowane’s studio, where we were recording, was broken into, and all the equipment and our songs were stolen. That really set me back. The project I did with Zakwe reignited my confidence and passion for music, and that’s why I started releasing singles.”

Reflecting on the journey to this release, Duncan shared,

Incwadi Yezono delves into complex themes such as love, crime, struggle, backstabbing, and empowerment, staying true to Duncan‘s strength as a storyteller.

“The title track speaks about how things that happen in the dark always come to light. In other songs, I thank both my parents, which is quite unusual in our culture, as people tend to mostly thank their mothers. I also warn against the dangers of crime. There are topics that everyone can relate to because I speak about what happens in our daily lives.”

He explains,

The release comes off the back of Duncan’s viral diss track, “After Tears,” which targeted Big Zulu and reminded fans of Duncan’s sharp lyrical wit. This new album, Incwadi Yezono, proves to be just as powerful, combining his raw emotions with innovative production and creative storytelling.

The album is available now on all major streaming platforms, allowing fans to dive into Duncan’s newest work. Prepare yourself for an electrifying listening experience as Duncan reclaims his place in the industry with Incwadi Yezono.
