Steenberg Semillon takes a bow at 2021 Decanter World Wine Awards
A dedicated focus on Semillon as a pure expression of Steenberg terroir has been rewarded with international acclaim and a score of 92 points at the 2021 Decanter World Wine Awards.
Steenberg Semillon 2019 broke the venerable 90 point barrier, earning a silver medal at this prestigious London based wine competition.
“A richly textured wine. Cool green fruits mix with sandalwood and a floral note and a grassy, tangy finish,”
is how the Decanter judges describe this New World, cool climate Semillon from the Constantia Valley.
The annual wine competition, now in its 18th year, is recognised as the world’s largest and most influential with a record number of over 18 000 wines from 56 countries tasted this year.
The award winning Steenberg Semillon owes its rich complexity to the long, cool ripening season of the 2019 vintage and 10 months’ maturation in a combination of new and older French oak barrels. Made from two prized vineyard blocks, the wine has a rich, almost waxy texture perfectly balanced with bright acidity. Expect citrus and floral notes to linger on the palate long after the last sip. This lauded Semillon will continue to evolve in complexity and richness with further cellaring.
Steenberg Semillon 2019 is available at a cellar door price of R230 per bottle. For more information or online purchases, visit www.steenbergfarm.com
