Jazzanova Celebrates 20 Years of In Between with Electrifying Live Reinterpretation
Jazzanova Revisit Their Roots with a Soulful, Live Reimagination of In Between
More than two decades after reshaping the sound of nu jazz with their debut LP In Between, Berlin-based collective Jazzanova returns with In Between Revisited – Jazzanova Live, a deeply textured reimagining of the album that launched their international acclaim. Recorded live at Little Big Beat Studios in Liechtenstein, this reinterpretation breathes new life into the collective’s rich tapestry of jazz, soul, broken beat, and electronica.
Released in 2002, In Between was a genre-defying work that pushed the boundaries of sample-based production. Produced by Stefan Leisering and Axel Reinemer, with DJs Alex Barck, Claas Brieler, and Jürgen von Knoblauch, the album set a new standard for what electronic-infused jazz could be. Now, in 2025, Jazzanova invites listeners to experience the record in a wholly new light—with real instruments, live improvisation, and an inspired lineup of musicians and vocalists.
This isn’t just a live album. It’s a tribute. A re-examination. A sonic journey that blurs the line between the digital origins of the early 2000s and the warmth of human touch.
The Live Experience: Where Precision Meets Improvisation
The Jazzanova Live Band, active since 2008, has spent the last 15 years performing around the globe, building a reputation for combining technical precision with soulful spontaneity. Their experience culminates beautifully on In Between Revisited.

Captured using three analog multi-track tape machines and recorded in front of a small audience, this session delivers an intimate, visceral experience. The musicianship is world-class: from Sebastian Borkowski’s expressive sax and flute work to Paul Kleber’s familiar basslines—having also contributed to the original album—each note feels both familiar and fresh.
The live interpretations preserve the spirit of In Between while enhancing it with rich, organic textures. Tracks like “That Night,” reimagined with Nigerian-born vocalist Wayne Snow, and “No Use” featuring a returning Clara Hill, bring new vocal dynamics to songs that have lived in listener playlists for over 20 years. HEEN (Heen Maartens) infuses “The One-Tet” with lyrical sharpness, while Christoph Adams’ keys and vocals weave magic throughout.
Track Highlights: A Journey Through Jazzanova’s Evolution
From the opening notes of “L.O.V.E. and You & I,” the album signals its intent: to fuse samples with live performance seamlessly. “Mwela, Mwela (Here I Am)” showcases tight, punchy grooves, while “Place in Between / Cyclic” and “Another New Day” offer mellow, reflective moments full of melodic optimism.
Uplifting crowd favorites like “Days to Come” and the infectious “Dance the Dance” anchor the LP’s club roots, now rendered in a more organic but equally energetic form. The result is an album that pays homage to its legacy while sounding like it was made for today’s audiophile listener.
A Timeless Tribute, Reborn
In Between Revisited – Jazzanova Live is more than just a celebration of an album. It’s a reminder of how great music evolves, how it matures with the artists who made it, and how it continues to inspire generations.

With a global release set for 9th May 2025 in both 2LP vinyl and digital formats, this live session is essential listening—not just for Jazzanova fans, but for anyone drawn to the genre-fluid crossroads of jazz, soul, and electronic fusion.
