This season, adidas Originals marks the return of one of the most beloved silhouettes in 3-stripes history – the Samba.

Originally designed as an indoor soccer model, since it first released in the 1950s, the Samba has endured in both sport and culture. For its return, adidas Originals has brought the Samba back in a meticulous one-for-one reproduction of the original design.

True to the blueprint, the Samba boasts a full leather construction across the upper with contrast leather 3-stripe mark and heel tab, while the shoe’s distinctive T-toe panel is rendered in premium suede.

Finishing touches include gold foil Samba branding on the lateral side and a woven branded label on the tongue, while the Samba’s iconic translucent gum midsole completes the picture. Stepping out in classic black and white colorways, the result is a welcome return of a chapter in adidas history like no other.

In addition to this, adidas Originals brings a bold contemporary treatment to the iconic Samba silhouette, with a platform sole to create the women’s-exclusive Samba Rose.

Reconfiguring the Samba’s original design into a slick, more feminine context, the Samba Rose sees the shoe’s traditional material construction switched out for a softer leather, while its iconic suede T-toe panel is replaced with decorative zig-zag stitching. Other adjustments include variations on the shoe’s original heel tab, while essential branding details on the lateral side and tongue make a welcome return.

This is then finished with the translucent gum sole that gives the Samba Rose its name, finished with an embossed trefoil logo on the midsole. Ultimately, the release culminates as a powerful evolution of one of adidas’ most beloved silhouettes, complementing its historic design with a forward-thinking aesthetic that places the Samba within a whole new context.

The Samba OG retails for R1499 while the Samba Rose retails for R1599. Both silhouettes are available at adidas Originals stores, www.adidas.co.za and select retailers.
