Art Meets Architecture: Blok Launches ELEVENONB and Art On The Blok 2.0

Art Meets Architecture As Blok Launches ELEVENONB And Art On The Blok 2.0 – Open Art

A vibrant fusion of creativity, collaboration, and community unfolded in Cape Town’s West City as leading property developer Blok officially launched its 21st development, ELEVENONB, on Thursday, 6 November 2025. The launch coincided with First Thursdays and marked the unveiling of Art on the Blok 2.0 – Open Art, a dynamic, open-air art experience that reimagines how public spaces can inspire connection through art and architecture.

The event transformed the ELEVENONB site — soon to be a mixed-use residential and retail development — into an urban art park, celebrating paint, ink, movement, and music. Visitors were treated to live performances, installations, and a commissioned mural by Palm Black, surrounded by over 20 local artists’ works, which will remain on display until February 2026.

Among the featured artists were Yolande Schoeman, Bongani Khumalo, Arthur Brigg, Ally Britz, Qhamani Bangani, Jako Pretorius (OKAJ), Tariq Munshi, Mathabela William Madiela (Digital Bushman), Thami Nzolo, Mpumelelo Buthelezi, Malebogo Molokoane, Adri Botha, Angelique Cornelison, Cassian Robbertze, Emily Rice, Endinalo Moni, Ruan Cornelissen, Jana Le Roux, Yvette Polovin, Jared Aufrichtig, and Robert Rorich.

Blok’s Open Art initiative builds on its enduring commitment to integrating art within the built environment, inviting the public to experience creativity as an essential part of urban life.

“Art on the Blok has always been about connection. With Open Art, we’re inviting the public into the process — into the city itself — to experience how creativity can transform urban spaces and make them more open, more human, and more alive.”

said Jacques van Embden, CEO of Blok

Guest speaker Rashiq Fataar, CEO of Our Future Cities, shared insights on how art and design play pivotal roles in inclusive city-building and the regeneration of Cape Town’s West City precinct — an area that continues to evolve as a creative and residential hub.

Located at the corner of Buiten and Loop Streets, ELEVENONB reflects Blok’s vision for accessible, design-led urban living. The development will feature 151 apartments, starting from R1 795 000, including:

  • 23 Compact Studio apartments
  • 50 Studio apartments
  • 17 Compact One-bedroom apartments
  • 24 One-bedroom apartments
  • 32 Two-bedroom apartments
  • 2 Three-bedroom apartments
  • 3 Penthouse apartments

Designed to foster community and convenience, the development includes shops, co-working spaces, a privately-operated gym, laundry facilities, 24/7 security, a concierge and building manager (by Fluent), as well as backup power for shared areas.

Prospective buyers can now explore apartment details and create a shortlist online before sales officially open on Tuesday, 11 November 2025.
