Made by Heart. Crafted by Patience.
The Balvenie, world-renowned for its unique range of single malt Scotch whiskies handcrafted in the heart of Speyside, proudly launches The Makers Project in South Africa. This global campaign explores the meeting point between modern creativity and timeless craftsmanship, honouring artistry and mastery that transform the ordinary into the extraordinary.

South African Debut: Celebrating Local Makers
For its South African chapter, The Makers Project reveals visionary talents shaping their fields. Among them are Cassandra Davis, culinary innovator and head chef at SINN, and Maia Lehr-Sacks, a sculptural paper artist. More creators will be unveiled in the coming weeks, each embodying the patience, tradition, and innovation that mirror The Balvenie’s approach to whisky-making.

Just as The Balvenie perfects its single malts through the Five Rare Crafts, these Makers channel creativity, experimentation, and reverence for process into their own disciplines.

A Global Celebration of Craft
Originally launched in collaboration with Harper’s Bazaar, The Makers Project shines a spotlight on international creators whose dedication echoes the spirit of The Balvenie’s craftsmen. Globally, this includes renowned perfumer Aurélien Guichard, British designer Alice Temperley, and Michelin-starred chef Michel Roux Jr.
“The Makers Project honours those who elevate tradition with innovation and showcase the patience and character required to reach the pinnacle of their craft. It’s about celebrating the human touch that transforms something good into something truly exceptional.”
says Kelsey McKechnie, The Balvenie’s Malt Master
A Taste of What’s to Come
The South African launch was unveiled through an exclusive epicurean showcase hosted at SINN restaurant, inspired by The Balvenie’s Five Rare Crafts. Guests were immersed in a journey of artistry, innovation, and taste.
“From cultivating our own barley and maintaining a traditional malting floor, to employing a dedicated coppersmith and cooperage, and guided by the Malt Master, each element safeguards authenticity and character. This rare dedication ensures every drop of The Balvenie carries distinctive depth, integrity, and individuality.”
McKechnie emphasises the importance of the distillery’s time-honoured practices:
Cassandra Davis led guests through the Five Pillars of the Perfect Dish and Dessert, while Maia Lehr-Sacks unveiled her Five Pillars of the Perfect Scene, inspired by upcoming sculptural window installations for Norman Goodfellows outlets.

The evening also featured Gift Makoti, The Balvenie’s South Africa Brand Ambassador, who shared the heritage and significance of The Balvenie’s Five Rare Crafts, followed by a guided tasting of the 12YO DoubleWood, 14YO Caribbean Cask, and 21YO PortWood.

Raising a Glass to Makers Everywhere
The Makers Project is a testament to creativity, character, and the extraordinary results born from true craftsmanship. It’s both a tribute and a toast to makers worldwide who devote their lives to elevating tradition with innovation.
