The Grove Mall Rolls Out the Red Carpet for My fk, Marelize! Premiere*
Local stars, media, and film enthusiasts gathered at The Grove Mall last week for the premiere of the feature film My fk, Marelize!*, an event celebrating Namibian cinema and the viral story behind Marelize Horn’s unforgettable moment.
The film brings to life the incident that captured global attention when Marelize crashed her bicycle into a rugby goalpost, prompting her mother’s exclamation to become a pop culture sensation. What began as an internet moment is now a heartwarming and humorous feature exploring resilience, family bonds, and everyday life.
Set against the vibrant backdrop of the WIKA carnival in Windhoek, the movie follows Marelize as she navigates learning to ride a bicycle and preparing for life abroad, while her mother Heidi conceals a family secret. Attendees at the premiere included Je-ani Swiegelaar (Heidi Horn), Zandelle Meyer (Marelize Horn), Nichola Viviers (Wilmari Horn), Chanél Muller (Annelise), director Zandré Coetzer, and Len Muller, who performed the film’s theme song.
A Night of Stars
Guests were treated to a lively celebration with notable personalities such as Nadia Beukes, Revan Luus, Karlien van Jaarsveld, Vasti Spiller, Tamlyn Wessels, Willem Botha, Demi-Lee Moore, and Lee Scott in attendance. The evening offered photo opportunities, cast meet-and-greets, and a festive atmosphere enhanced by Darling Brew and Six Dogs Gin, including a dedicated gin bar.
Reactions to the film were overwhelmingly positive, with viewers describing it as “hilarious”, “emotional”, and “wow, so cool”. Its blend of humour and heartfelt storytelling resonated strongly, cementing its significance in Namibian cinema.
“It was a privilege to host the premiere of My fk, Marelize!* and to support such an authentic local production. The turnout and energy on the night reflected just how much this story means to audiences, and we are proud to have played a part in its celebration.”
Julie-Anne Claassen, General Manager at The Grove Mall, said:
