Sfarzo Rtee Takes on a New Battle with EMPINI

In an industry where staying relevant can be just as challenging as breaking through, South African producer and DJ Sfarzo Rtee is making his intentions clear. His latest album, EMPINI, is about embracing the battles that come with ambition, protecting creative identity and refusing to stand still.

Meaning “at war” or “in battle” in isiZulu, EMPINI is less about competing with others and more about confronting the pressures that come with building a career in music. For an artist operating within one of South Africa‘s most competitive and constantly evolving genres, that message carries weight.

From Personal Healing to Creative Warfare

EMPINI follows Sfarzo’s 2025 project, Rethabile, an emotionally driven album exploring love, heartbreak and healing. The project debuted at number one on Apple Music, marking an important career milestone and demonstrating his growing connection with listeners.

But where Rethabile opened a window into his emotional world, EMPINI presents a different perspective.

This time, the focus shifts towards determination, ambition and the realities of maintaining momentum after achieving success. It’s a reminder that reaching a milestone doesn’t mean the journey gets easier. Sometimes, it simply introduces a new set of expectations.

For Sfarzo, the challenge is to keep evolving without losing the musical identity that brought him this far.

Representing the Evolution of Sgija

Originally from Polokwane, Limpopo, and musically shaped in Pretoria, Sfarzo Rtee has steadily developed his reputation within Amapiano’s Sgija movement.

His catalogue, including the House of Sgija series and The New Testament, reflects a producer interested in more than simply following dancefloor trends. His approach combines intricate production, layered rhythms and melodic experimentation.

Collaborations with established names such as Kelvin Momo, Josiah De Disciple and DBN Gogo have further strengthened his position within the genre.

On EMPINI, that creative foundation remains intact, but the ambition feels bigger. The album moves between soulful moments and energetic dancefloor arrangements, bringing together Jinger Stone, Mashudu, De Rose, Portia KM, Tracy, Baby S.O.N, Mkeyz and Sipho Magudulela.

The variety of collaborators adds different personalities to the project while allowing Sfarzo’s production identity to remain at its centre.

Ndimi Ndimi Brings the Romance to the Dancefloor

Leading the album campaign is “Ndimi Ndimi”, featuring De Rose and Portia KM.

The track brings a playful energy to EMPINI, exploring the excitement of wanting to be someone’s favourite person. It’s a flirtatious take on romance wrapped in the infectious rhythms that continue to make Amapiano a soundtrack for South African social life.

Its early reception suggests that listeners are already connecting with the record. TikTok teasers have reportedly generated more than 600,000 views and 100,000 likes ahead of the official release.

That response also highlights the growing importance of social media in how South African music finds its audience. A track can build a community, inspire dance challenges and generate conversation long before listeners experience the complete album.

The Battle Is Bigger Than the Music

What makes EMPINI interesting is the thinking behind its title. In an industry increasingly shaped by viral moments, streaming numbers and constant competition for attention, artistic longevity requires more than producing the next popular song.

It demands consistency, experimentation and the confidence to develop a recognisable sound.

For a producer emerging from Limpopo and establishing himself within Pretoria’s music landscape, Sfarzo Rtee‘s journey also reflects the creative influence of South Africa‘s regional music communities.

EMPINI celebrates how far he has travelled without pretending the work is finished. It is a statement from an artist who understands that success comes with responsibility: to the craft, the audience and the creative vision that makes the music distinct.

And perhaps that’s the real meaning behind this latest release. Sfarzo isn’t declaring war on the Amapiano industry. He’s making a statement about the kind of artist he intends to become.

EMPINI is available now across major digital streaming platforms.
