TCL Introduces Revolutionary SQD-Mini LED TV Technology to South Africa
TCL has officially introduced its next-generation SQD-Mini LED technology to the South African market, raising the bar for premium television performance with industry-leading brightness, exceptional colour accuracy, deeper contrast, and immersive audio.
As the Global No.1 Mini LED and Ultra Large Screen TV (75″+) brand, according to OMDIA 2025, TCL continues to strengthen its leadership in home entertainment by bringing its latest display innovation to local consumers. The new technology will headline TCL’s 2026 premium television lineup, offering South Africans a true cinema-quality viewing experience at home.
What Is SQD-Mini LED?
SQD-Mini LED (Super Quantum Dot Mini LED) is TCL’s latest evolution of Mini LED display technology. It enhances traditional QD-Mini LED by improving three key components: the Mini LED backlight, Quantum Dot layer, and colour filter inside the LCD panel.
Rather than using RGB Mini LED lighting, TCL employs an advanced blue LED backlight combined with newly developed quantum dots and its proprietary Ultra Colour Filter. This innovative approach virtually eliminates colour crosstalk while significantly improving colour performance.

Compared to previous generations, SQD-Mini LED delivers:
- Up to 33% wider colour gamut
- Up to 69% greater Quantum Dot accuracy
- More precise and vibrant colours with improved consistency
SQD-Mini LED vs RGB Mini LED
Compared to RGB Mini LED technology, TCL says SQD-Mini LED offers several major advantages.
It features three times more precise local dimming zones, delivers higher brightness levels, produces a more stable wide colour gamut, and completely eliminates colour crosstalk, preventing colours from bleeding into one another.
SQD-Mini LED vs OLED
TCL also positions SQD-Mini LED as a compelling alternative to OLED displays.

The technology achieves peak brightness levels of up to 10,000 nits on flagship models, making HDR content more vivid while preserving detail in both bright and dark scenes. Unlike OLED panels, SQD-Mini LED is also free from the risk of permanent burn-in and offers greater durability, particularly on ultra-large screen televisions.
Hollywood-Level Colour Accuracy
Through TCL’s Super QLED technology and Ultra Colour Filter, SQD-Mini LED achieves full coverage of the BT.2020 colour space, one of the widest colour standards used for HDR content and Hollywood production.
The result is richer, more accurate colours that remain faithful to the creator’s original vision.
Exceptional Brightness and Contrast
Flagship SQD-Mini LED models reach an impressive 10,000 nits of peak brightness, making them ideal for bright living rooms while maintaining excellent colour accuracy.

To enhance contrast, TCL combines up to 20,736 local dimming zones with its All-Domain Halo Control Technology, producing deeper blacks, improved shadow detail, and significantly reduced halo effects around bright objects.
Designed for Large-Screen Entertainment
As consumer demand for larger televisions continues to grow, SQD-Mini LED has been engineered to deliver consistent performance across ultra-large displays.
The technology provides superior brightness, long-term colour stability, and an extended lifespan compared to competing display technologies, making it well suited for premium home cinema installations.
Premium Audio by Bang & Olufsen
Higher-end TCL models equipped with SQD-Mini LED will also feature professionally tuned Bang & Olufsen audio systems.
The collaboration delivers powerful, room-filling sound that complements the immersive visual experience, reducing the need for additional external speakers for many users.
Premium Technology Made More Accessible
According to Mr. Mike Chen, General Manager at TCL South Africa, the company’s goal is to bring flagship-level television technology within reach of more South African consumers.
“South African consumers should never have to compromise on picture quality when investing in a premium home entertainment experience. As the Global No.1 Mini LED and Ultra Large Screen TV brand, TCL is proud to bring SQD-Mini LED to the local market, delivering breakthrough brightness, cinema-grade colour precision, advanced light control, and immersive Bang & Olufsen audio in a way that makes true flagship performance more accessible than ever.”
Coming Soon to South Africa
SQD-Mini LED technology will debut across TCL’s 2026 flagship television range, alongside selected Audio by Bang & Olufsen products and connected Google smart home appliances.
Retail pricing and availability for the South African market will be announced at a later date.
With SQD-Mini LED, TCL is positioning itself at the forefront of premium home entertainment by combining cutting-edge display innovation, world-class audio, and large-screen performance into a more accessible package for consumers looking to upgrade their viewing experience.
