South African music powerhouse Toshi has officially unveiled her most personal and ambitious project yet, Beyond Toshi (DA020), now available on all major streaming platforms via DanceAfrika.
Released on 3 April 2025, the 12-track album is more than just a body of work—it’s a deeply spiritual and emotional journey that captures Toshi’s evolution as an artist and as a human being. Blending Afro-Soul, Afro-House, Neo-Gospel and African Electronica, Beyond Toshi stands as a defining statement in contemporary South African music.
“Beyond Toshi is everything I’ve been building towards. It’s bigger than music—it’s a statement of who I am and where African sound is going,”.

A Journey Rooted in Spirit and Identity
From the opening track Ilanga to the closing anthem Icamagu, the album is layered with themes of love, resilience, gratitude and spiritual awakening. Toshi’s storytelling goes beyond melody—each song carries a deeper message.
Tracks like Sikelela with Shona SA tap into gratitude and spiritual connection, while Iphupha explores the idea of “sleeping dreams”—a powerful metaphor for lost purpose and the need for inner awakening.
Meanwhile, Omale featuring Bokkieult celebrates beauty and global musical fusion, reflecting Toshi’s international influences without losing her African authenticity.
A Star-Studded Collaborative Effort
Rather than chasing commercial trends, Toshi curated a lineup based on artistic synergy. The album features an impressive roster including Black Motion, Cuebur, Catzico, Inzima, Alie Keys and more.
Each collaboration adds a unique layer to the album’s sonic landscape—ranging from deep house grooves to spiritually uplifting compositions.
Honouring a 12-Year Legacy
The release of Beyond Toshi comes 12 years after Toshi gained global recognition alongside Black Coffee on the iconic track Buya. Since then, her voice has become synonymous with soulful, healing music that transcends borders.
Now signed to DanceAfrika, this album marks a milestone moment—one that reflects both her journey and her vision for the future of African sound.
More Than Music—A Movement
Throughout the album’s creation and launch, Toshi emphasized authenticity, spirituality and human connection. From spontaneous studio sessions to deeply introspective songwriting, Beyond Toshi is rooted in lived experience.
Her message is clear: music is not just entertainment—it’s healing, storytelling and a bridge between souls.
As Toshi herself puts it, this album is not just about sound—it’s about truth, growth and the power of staying aligned with one’s purpose.
With Beyond Toshi, Toshi doesn’t just release an album—she delivers a transformative experience that reaffirms her place among South Africa’s most influential musical voices.
