QUE DJ RETURNS WITH WE DON’T PLAY THE SAME GQOM 3: A DEFINING NEW ERA FOR GQOM’S GLOBAL FUTURE

Renowned producer, DJ, and Gqom trailblazer QUE DJ has officially returned with We Don’t Play The Same Gqom 3 (WDPTSG3), the latest chapter in his acclaimed project series and a powerful milestone in the evolution of the Gqom genre. Bold, forward-thinking, and deeply rooted in Durban’s cultural pulse, WDPTSG3 ushers in a new era for the globally rising sound.

A Trailblazing Series Continues

The WDPTSG series launched with the explosive single “Da Skoro” featuring DJ Lag, uniting two of Gqom’s most influential architects. The track set the tone for a high-impact rollout that included a fully immersive experiential launch in Amsterdam during ADE, followed by the official WDPTSG3 release party. Together, these events amplified Gqom’s footprint on the international stage, reinforcing QUE DJ’s long-standing mission of exporting the sound worldwide.

From Durban Streets to Global Dance Floors

Hailing from the townships of Durban, QUE DJ has been a defining force in Gqom’s ascent—from raw Fruity Loops experimentation to the world’s biggest dance floors. As a founding member of Distruction Boyz, he helped deliver era-defining hits like “Omunye” and “Wololo”, the latter featured in Marvel’s Black Panther, cementing Gqom’s place in global pop culture.

A relentless innovator, QUE DJ has pioneered movements within the genre, including the heavier bass wave known as UMKHUNKULU, while performing at major global venues such as Paradiso Amsterdam and Village Underground London. His creative universe also expands through his iGhost alter ego, further showcasing his experimental edge.

His SAMA-winning album We Don’t Play The Same Gqom 2 and its accompanying festival established him as a central cultural force shaping the modern sound of South African electronic music.

A Cultural Architect Beyond the Music

QUE DJ’s impact transcends production and performance. Through Amagogogo Sounds, he nurtures emerging talent across the electronic spectrum, while Emagogogweni continues to grow as a platform for immersive Gqom-led experiences. Most recently, the platform partnered with Spotify to deliver the first-ever international Gqom installation at ADE—a landmark for the genre’s global recognition.

QUE DJ on WDPTSG3

“This project is about pushing Gqom forward while staying rooted in where we come from. It’s a reminder that our sound, our culture, and our story deserve global stages. We don’t play the same because we’re constantly evolving and this chapter is only the beginning.”

Reflecting on the new chapter, QUE DJ shares:

A Future-Defining Moment for Gqom

With We Don’t Play The Same Gqom 3, QUE DJ once again expands the boundaries of the genre—evolving its soundscapes, elevating its movement, and reinforcing his place as one of the most progressive and influential minds in South African electronic music.

WDPTSG3 is not just a project—it’s a statement of intent, a cultural milestone, and a powerful step forward for Gqom’s global future.
