Star Khanya Launches on DStv with isiZulu-Dubbed Dramas and Movies
JioStar and DStv have announced the launch of Star Khanya, a vibrant new general entertainment channel in isiZulu, blending rich storytelling with the heart and soul of South African culture. The channel officially premieres on 18 August 2025 at 18:00 on DStv Channel 160, and will be available to Premium, Compact Plus, Compact, Family, and Access customers.

A Cultural Collaboration That Shines
The name Khanya, meaning “to shine” in isiZulu, reflects the channel’s vision of illuminating homes with powerful, relatable stories. Star Khanya’s lineup features award-winning Indian telenovelas and soapies, all dubbed in isiZulu and subtitled in English, with eight original prime time shows airing daily from 18h00 to 22h00.

From stories of love, resilience, and ambition to tales of supernatural romance, Star Khanya promises family-friendly content with strong, progressive, and contemporary characters.
“Star Khanya brings more local relevance to our content mix, offering engaging entertainment in a language that feels like home for millions of our customers. We’re committed to making DStv better for everyone, across all packages.”
Byron du Plessis, CEO of MultiChoice South Africa, said:

“With Star Khanya, we celebrate identity, connect communities, and redefine how stories are localised. It’s a channel born of light, purpose, and the indomitable power of quality storytelling.”
A JioStar spokesperson added:

A Channel Rooted in Identity
Star Khanya’s visual identity draws inspiration from the artistry of Zulu beadwork, using vibrant colours and deep symbolism. The logo reflects the strength of women, while the channel’s jingle blends tradition with modern energy.

JioStar, already known for the popular Star Life (DStv channel 167), brings its expertise in crafting compelling dubbed content. Research shows a growing appetite for quality local-language storytelling, and Star Khanya is poised to meet that demand.

More Value for DStv Customers
The launch of Star Khanya is part of DStv’s ongoing effort to broaden entertainment options. Recent improvements include new channels, extra concurrent streams, reduced decoder prices, and added Rewards — with more enhancements planned for the months ahead.
Star Khanya – Made to inspire. Built to shine.
