Now, Waverley in Pretoria joins the family with the official opening of Ocean Basket Waverley Plaza—a modern, cozy space helmed by passionate franchisees Johannes and Anna Pienaar.

From Zambezi to Waverley: A Dream Realised

The Pienaars’ journey with Ocean Basket began in 2023 when they opened their first store in Zambezi Junction. The success was immediate, and it became clear that their next move needed to bring the beloved seafood brand even closer to the local community.

“From the moment we stepped into Zambezi, we noticed how many customers were travelling from Waverley just to enjoy our food. We knew we had to bring it closer to them.”

That vision became reality with the Waverley location—store number three for the couple, following their recent takeover of Ocean Basket Woodlands Boulevard, which is set to undergo a stylish revamp soon.

Community First, Always

Instead of a grand opening bash, the Pienaars chose a softer approach.

“Waverley is home to many elderly residents, and we didn’t want anyone queueing in the cold or feeling rushed. We opened in a way that felt right—for us and for the people we’re here to serve.”
