Jacaranda FM’s #YouthDayTakeover Nurtures the Next Generation of Broadcasting Talent

In celebration of Youth Day, Jacaranda FM turned its studios into a launchpad for tomorrow’s radio stars through the #YouthDayTakeover — a high-impact mentorship initiative that brought young aspiring broadcasters face-to-face with the realities of professional radio. This unique platform invited a select group of dynamic young presenters to co-host live shows, collaborate behind the scenes, and gain invaluable exposure to South Africa’s broadcasting industry.

Aspiring broadcasters Joy Fakude, Faith Modise, Ricardo Genesis, Walter Ernst, and Karabo Peter, all hailing from various community and campus radio stations across Gauteng, were given the rare opportunity to step into the spotlight. Taking over major segments on Breakfast with Martin Bester, The Workzone, and The Drive with Rob & Roz, each young voice received real-time mentoring from Jacaranda FM’s renowned presenters and production teams.

“It was incredibly inspiring to see our next generation of broadcasters step into the studio with such confidence, creativity and energy. These voices represent the future of our industry—and I can’t wait to hear where they go from here.”

said Martin Bester, host of Jacaranda FM’s flagship breakfast show

The initiative wasn’t just a one-day showpiece. It was crafted as a genuine training ground—a full-circle experience encompassing on-air delivery, content planning, social media synergy, and studio production. These rising stars explored the rhythm of radio broadcasting while engaging thousands of listeners live across the station’s platforms.

“We set out to create more than just a spotlight; this takeover was a genuine training ground. Watching these presenters embrace live challenges and interact with audiences in real-time proves that the next generation is brimming with potential.”

said Ravi Naidoo, Programming and Content Manager at Jacaranda FM

Through a structured yet creative mentorship experience, participants learned how to balance pacing, storytelling, audience engagement, and content timing. Whether they were handling live reads, social media integrations, or segment transitions, they were guided every step of the way by some of the best in the business.

“It was a day full of excitement, teamwork, and incredible talent. We can’t wait to see what the future holds for these young presenters!”

Naidoo concluded

The #YouthDayTakeover forms part of Jacaranda FM’s larger commitment to youth empowerment and development, providing real access and opportunity to those with passion and potential. In a country where media access can be limited by geography or resources, Jacaranda FM is opening doors—and airwaves—to shape the next generation of media professionals.
