High School Warcry Rocks Mzansi in Celebration of Uber Eats
In a feel-good moment that has captured the hearts of South Africans, Hoërskool Tygerberg delivered a show-stopping Uber Eats-themed flash performance at the annual MTBS interschools athletics competition on 8 February. The viral display, which saw students creatively spelling out “Uber Eats” with their blazers and incorporating popular merchant logos alongside a moving delivery bike, was a testament to the brand’s strong presence among young South Africans.
MTBS: A Legacy of School Spirit and Creativity
MTBS is the largest interschool competition in South Africa, featuring a mix of athletics, cheerleading, and spirited flash performances between four rival schools: D.F. Malan High School, Tygerberg High School, Bellville High School, and Stellenberg High School. Each year, students push the boundaries of creativity, and in 2025, Hoërskool Tygerberg took things to the next level by paying tribute to Uber Eats in a bold and dynamic way.
The performance not only electrified the crowd but also reinforced Uber Eats’ deep connection with Gen Z consumers. The brand’s dominance in the youth market was reaffirmed when it was once again voted The Coolest Food Delivery App at the 2024 Sunday Times GenNext Awards.
Uber Eats Gives Back to Hoërskool Tygerberg
Recognizing the school’s enthusiasm and creativity, Uber Eats has rewarded all 1,200 pupils and teachers at Hoërskool Tygerberg with promo codes for a free meal—amounting to a total value of R140,000. This generous gesture ensures that every student and educator can enjoy their favorite meal on the country’s leading food delivery platform.
“Seeing the passion and creativity from Hoërskool Tygerberg was truly special. We’re honored to be a part of such a memorable moment and thrilled that Uber Eats plays a role in the lives of so many young South Africans. This is our way of saying thank you!”
Cassie Jaganyi, Head of Communications for Uber, shared her excitement:
“MTBS is about school spirit, creativity, and unity, and our learners were excited to bring Uber Eats into this year’s flash. The response from Uber Eats has been incredible, and our students are beyond excited to receive this special surprise.”
Jesse Harmse, an educator at Hoërskool Tygerberg, expressed the school’s gratitude:
A Celebration of Brand Loyalty and Youth Culture
This moment underscores how brands that engage with youth culture in authentic and fun ways can build deep-rooted loyalty. Uber Eats has successfully embedded itself in South African youth culture, and moments like these solidify its status as the go-to food delivery platform for the next generation.
With social media buzzing over the viral warcry and Uber Eats’ heartfelt response, this event serves as a reminder that when brands and communities come together, everyone wins.
