A serendipitous meeting between the gifted vocalist and songwriter Anna Ling and accomplished producer Lucky Sun (Tom Lown) has resulted in two captivating remixes of Anna’s song Butterfly. Set to release on 31 January 2025, these remixes breathe new life into her already enchanting track, offering listeners a blend of folk-inspired soul and electronic finesse.
Anna Ling, a Devon-based singer-songwriter, choir leader, and teacher, has long explored collaborative opportunities with producers to reimagine her heartfelt, folky originals. Her distinctive voice, described as almost otherworldly, finds a new home in Lucky Sun’s nuanced productions.
The Remixes
The first Lucky Sun remix is a downtempo masterpiece. Tom’s live drumwork is paired with soft synths and pads, laying a lush foundation for the double bass and strings from the original track. Anna’s ethereal vocals soar above this soundscape, creating an emotional and atmospheric experience. The interplay between live instrumentation and electronic textures ensures this remix delivers spine-tingling moments.
The second remix, Lucky Sun Midnight Dub Mix, is a more vibrant, deep house interpretation. With an uplifting groove, Anna’s vocals are woven subtly into the mix, emphasizing a “dub” style that highlights the track’s rhythmic depth. Warm and danceable, this version retains the essence of the original while embracing a club-friendly energy.
