Apple Music New Artist Spotlight shines on Simmy

To round out 2018 Apple Music have announced Simmy as their New Artist Spotlight for December, to coincide with the release of her debut album, Tugela Fairy.

Simmy has been carving out a distinctive position in the South African music industry and is considered by some as a future star for next generation South African artists taking the reins.

Passion and creativity run deep within Simmy, growing up in a musical household and started her musical journey in primary school where she composed songs with her school choir mates, it soon became clear she belonged on stage.

Discovered by Sun el Musician & signed to his label El World Music, Simmy’s music is a balanced mix of South African House Music and Neo-Soul. Her style incorporates inspiration from legends such as Dolly Parton, Platform One, Brenda Fassie and Soul Brothers, translating into beautiful songs filled with airy vocals and carefully crafted instrumentation.

Simmy feels that African roots music is needed now more than ever to remind us of the nostalgic pathways of our own history. Her songs fuse history with modern issues and personal narratives that speak to life in the digital age.

With many popular and award-winning hits such as “Sonini”, “Ubala” and “Ntabezikude”, her debut album, Tugela Fairy is a representation of where she comes from and her love of storytelling through her music, and as she says “spreading my musical magic all around.”
