Strictly Soul Cape Town Celebrates 20 Years of “The Emancipation of Mimi” with a Masquerade Edition R&B Party

Strictly Soul Cape Town returns with an unforgettable night of rhythm, romance, and Mariah. On Friday, 6th June, the city’s favorite R&B celebration pays tribute to the 20th anniversary of Mariah Carey’s groundbreaking album The Emancipation of Mimi with a glamorous Masquerade Edition at the intimate One Park venue.
Dubbed the “It’s Like That” Masquerade Party, this event is in collaboration with Universal Music Group South Africa and promises to transport fans back to the golden era of R&B with timeless anthems like “We Belong Together,” “Shake It Off,” and more. Attendees are encouraged to dress to impress – masks, mystique, and Mimi magic are all part of the night’s allure.
To elevate the celebration, Strictly Soul has enlisted resident crowd-favorite DJ Akio alongside special guests who will be spinning a blend of Mariah classics and R&B bangers from icons like SZA, Chris Brown, Mary J. Blige, Jhene Aiko, and Beyoncé.
As part of the broader tribute, three rising South African artists – Lordkez, Rowlene, and Mia – have reimagined select songs from The Emancipation of Mimi, bringing local soul into the global celebration.
This is a strictly limited ticket event at One Park, promising a bespoke, immersive experience for die-hard R&B lovers.
Cape Town kicks off the Strictly Soul x Mimi, with Johannesburg dounle header following on 13th June for a “We Belong Together” themed celebration.
