Hidden Spaces Presents Ofentse Sebula Live at The Fort, Johannesburg – 23 August 2025
Step into the rhythm of the city with Hidden Spaces ZA, a performance series that bridges the gap between music creators and music lovers by reimagining live music in unique, intimate venues. On 23 August 2025, Hidden Spaces welcomes the remarkably gifted Ofentse Sebula to its stage at The Fort in Johannesburg, promising an unforgettable evening of sonic brilliance.
Hailing from the creative heart of Tembisa, Ofentse Sebula is more than just a saxophonist – he’s a composer, recording artist, and band leader whose music evokes deep emotional resonance and electrifies live audiences. A graduate cum laude from the Tshwane University of Technology, Sebula’s foundational training at the Molelekwa Arts Foundation under the guidance of Jerry Molelekwa laid the groundwork for a musical journey that blends jazz, improvisation, and Afro-futuristic grooves with spiritual intensity.
Sebula’s 2021 debut album, H.O.P.E (Holding On to Positive Expectations), showcased his talents not just as a performer but as a thoughtful and innovative composer. He has graced stages alongside the likes of Ndabo Zulu, Msaki, Iphupho L’ka Biko, Spha Mdlalose, and the Hugh Masekela Band, to name a few. In theatre, his work includes international tours with The African Mamas, and powerful productions such as Nkoli: The Vogue Opera.
A winner of the 2024 Yamaha Young Soloist Competition, and the Yamaha Gulf Saxophone Scholarship in 2023, Sebula is a standout on both local and international stages. His recent collaborations with artists like Zoë Modiga, Mpumi Dhlamini, and Keenan Meyer, as well as performances with the German Federal Youth Orchestra and J-Live, underscore his versatility and boundary-breaking artistry.
As part of Hidden Spaces’ Winter Live Series, Sebula’s performance will offer a deeply curated, immersive musical experience. Whether you’re a seasoned jazz aficionado or simply seeking a night of soul-stirring live music, this is an event not to miss.
Whether you’re moved by the lush textures of a saxophone or intrigued by the intersection of jazz and Afro-futurism, Ofentse Sebula at Hidden Spaces is a night that promises powerful musical storytelling, cultural resonance, and a shared space for deep listening.
