PHAT STOKI—known offstage as Gontse More—is an international DJ, cultural organiser, and one of the most influential forces shaping Johannesburg’s contemporary nightlife. Revered for their electrifying sets and deep community-centred ethos, PHAT STOKI embodies the pulse of South Africa’s club culture, where music becomes both escape and expression.
A Sound Rooted in Freedom, Intimacy, and Healing
PHAT STOKI’s sonic identity is a meditation on nightlife itself. Their sets are loud, sweaty, intimate spaces—where the bass turns the room into a living organism and dancers find liberation through rhythm. Every mix is a journey in connection, a reminder that the dancefloor can be both sanctuary and revolution.
Their artistry is more than performance; it is an ongoing conversation with the communities that bring nightlife to life.
Building Platforms, Powering Community
At the core of PHAT STOKI’s work lies community empowerment. As co-founder of P*ssy Party, they helped establish one of South Africa’s most significant platforms for queer, femme, and women DJs. What began as a Joburg movement has expanded to Cape Town and Durban, hosting events, workshops, and international collaborations.
P*ssy Party has become an incubator for new talent—nurturing DJs and producers, creating safer performance spaces, and reshaping the narrative of who gets to command the booth.
A Global Force in Electronic Music
PHAT STOKI’s influence stretches far beyond South Africa. Their talent has taken them to some of the world’s most respected stages, including:
- OppiKoppi
- Nyege Nyege Festival
- AfroPunk Johannesburg
- Zakifo Festival
- CTM Festival (Berlin)
- Five Boiler Room sets, each showcasing their versatility and cultural command
- A coveted closing set for M.I.A. during her South African tour
Their work continues to spotlight South African nightlife on the global map—authentic, unapologetic, and future-facing.
