Regular Sundays In Collaboration With Brooklyn Gin September 2022

On Sunday the 28th of September, Regular Sundays in collaboration with Brooklyn Gin brought followers
of Inkosi Unathi together to see him complete his latest piece at Best Friends, Greenside and find out
more about his creative journey.

For the month of September, followers of Regular Sundays joined each other for another edition of the monthly event. This time to hear from Inkosi Unathi who creates visuals ranging from pencil drawings, canvas paintings, murals and clay sculptures to digital work like illustration work, 2D & 3D animation. Born and raised in a culturally diverse part of Johannesburg, South Africa, most of his inspiration comes from his experiences within the environments he’s exposed to.

At the fitting space of Best Friends in Greenside, guests had the opportunity to watch him complete his latest piece inspired by the influences that come into play when creating in the modern day world. It was later through conversation that guests found out more about what inspires him and the work he produces.

Speaking to the completion of his work in Greenside; Inkosi Unathi mentions that he sees his latest work as a representation of how we’re all vessels with different ways of understanding the world around us. And that through our uniqueness we’re able to come up with different ideas. The meaning and inspiration behind his piece also makes reference to his latest readings which explore the age-old understanding of how masks and clay pots are vessels for spirits which take up a physical form in the physical realm. Therefore, the piece extends itself further into
representing him and how he chooses to express his creativity in the physical through methods and techniques which resonate with him – as through the medium of the spray can he is able to go out there and deliver whatever message he wants to convey.

For the month of September guests can continue to visit Best Friends to try out the cocktail created in his honour as well as also enjoy the burst of flavours present in every Brooklyn Gin glass. They will also have a chance to view Inkosi Unathi’s latest piece.

This is the third installment of this year’s Regular Sundays and guests can still expect to hear from Nene Mahlangu as well as Thokozane Madensela.
