WAV After Dark Brings R&B Heat to Creator Awards

South Africa‘s creator economy is becoming more than a digital playground. It’s a space where music, fashion, entertainment and business collide, creating new opportunities for the people shaping what the country watches, listens to and talks about.

On Saturday, 17 October 2026, that energy moves from the screen to the dance floor as WAV Festival takes over the official after-party of the Samsung Galaxy Content Creator Awards at The Galleria in Sandton, Johannesburg.

Dubbed WAV AFTER DARK, the experience promises a late-night celebration of R&B, hip-hop, Afro House and the sounds influencing contemporary South African culture. And with the awards ceremony and after-party happening under one roof, the plan is simple: celebrate the creators, then keep the party going.

From Digital Influence to Real-World Culture

Content creation has grown beyond posting videos and chasing engagement. Today’s creators influence music discovery, fashion choices, entertainment conversations and how brands connect with younger audiences.

The Samsung Galaxy Content Creator Awards bring that creative ecosystem into one room, recognising the people turning their ideas and online platforms into cultural influence. With 20 awards scheduled for the evening, the ceremony celebrates the talent behind the content.

But the night isn’t stopping at the red carpet.

WAV AFTER DARK introduces a different side of the celebration, where the focus shifts from recognition to connection. It’s an opportunity for creators, music lovers, industry players and culture-shapers to share a space beyond their feeds.

Five DJs, One Dance Floor

The after-party’s musical direction brings together different sounds and generations of dance-floor energy.

Internationally recognised DJ Teddy Tumi moves between hip-hop, R&B and house, while Count Lupa brings high-voltage Afro House and Afro Tech to the mix.

Known for blending genres into his signature sound cocktails, DJ Radix combines hip-hop, Afrobeats, dancehall, R&B and kwaito. His approach reflects the cross-genre listening culture that continues to shape South African nightlife.

Meanwhile, rising R&B selector DJ Ethan offers an opportunity to discover a name before the buzz gets louder, while radio and club DJ DJ Venom brings his experience in hip-hop and R&B to the dance floor.

Together, the line-up creates room for familiar favourites, genre-hopping sets and the kind of late-night moments that rarely follow a playlist’s rules.

The Awards Have Their Own Main-Character Moments

Before the after-party begins, the awards ceremony has a programme designed to spotlight emerging talent.

Comedian Mpho “Popps” Modikoane will host the evening, which includes a performance medley featuring the six nominees in the 947 Sound of Tomorrow category: Chesrae Megan, Carter Najar, Lordkez, Lukiemusic, Mikhalé Jones and Teagan’s Things.

Dance also gets its moment, with nominees Chad Jones, Benny Jnr, Ludopie, Rudi Smit and TDO Thando joining forces for a live performance choreographed by Benny Jnr.

With a star-studded presenter line-up and additional celebrity surprises promised, the ceremony aims to make the experience about more than collecting trophies.

Bernini Joins the Celebration

Bernini comes on board as an official sponsor of the after-party, joining the brands supporting this year’s event.

Its involvement adds another commercial partner to a gathering built around entertainment, creative influence and the growing relationship between brands and South Africa‘s creator community.

That relationship is increasingly important: creators bring audiences and cultural credibility, while partnerships can help bring experiences to life beyond the digital space.

Everything You Need to Know

The Samsung Galaxy Content Creator Awards take place on Saturday, 17 October 2026, at The Galleria in Sandton, Johannesburg. Doors open at 17:30, with the ceremony starting at 20:00.

WAV AFTER DARK kicks off at 22:00 at the same venue. There is no separate after-party ticket, but an awards ticket is required to attend the evening.

The event is strictly 18+, with a red-carpet-ready dress code calling for glam looks, suits and statement-making style.

Tickets are available through Quicket: https://www.quicket.co.za/events/391220-content-creator-awards-sponsored-by-samsung/#/

Looking beyond Johannesburg, WAV Festival is also preparing for its return to Cape Town on 2 January 2027 and its Pretoria debut at SunBet Arena on 3 January 2027, with Ty Dolla $ign and KWN headlining.

For now, the spotlight is on Sandton. The creators get their flowers, the DJs take over, and the night becomes a reminder that South African digital culture doesn’t live only online. Sometimes, its best moments happen when everyone meets on the dance floor.
