Oskido’s Big Day Out Brings Durban’s Legacy to Jozi

South African music has never been built by one city, one genre or one generation. At Oskido’s Big Day Out 2026, that history is coming together on one dancefloor — with Durban’s influential dance-music culture taking centre stage.

Set for Saturday, 28 November 2026 at Huddle Park in Linksfield, Johannesburg, the third edition of the festival is expanding its story with the addition of Durban favourites DJ Tira, DJ Sox of Durban’s Finest and DJ Cndo.

Their inclusion adds more than star power. It connects a new generation of festivalgoers with the sounds and artists that helped shape South Africa‘s modern dance culture.

Durban’s Sound Has a Story

Long before Amapiano became a global phenomenon, Durban was developing its own powerful relationship with dance music.

From Kwaito and house to the evolving sounds of contemporary South Africa, the city has consistently produced artists and movements that travelled far beyond its streets.

Bringing DJ Tira, DJ Sox and DJ Cndo into Big Day Out gives that history a physical presence.

For younger listeners who may know the names but haven’t experienced every chapter of the story, the festival becomes an opportunity to hear how different eras connect — from the foundational sounds of yesterday to the genres dominating today’s playlists.

And with two stages, the idea isn’t simply nostalgia. It’s about putting generations of South African music in conversation.

A Bigger Moment for Oskido

The 2026 festival also arrives during a significant chapter in Oskido’s own career.

Earlier this year, the legendary DJ and producer was awarded the Order of Ikhamanga by the Presidency in recognition of his contribution to South African music and culture.

Big Day Out now becomes part birthday celebration, part musical homecoming and part reflection on a career that has stretched across some of the most important eras in Mzansi’s music history.

That makes the festival’s emphasis on legacy particularly relevant.

It asks a simple question: what happens when the people who helped build the culture get to celebrate it alongside the generation carrying it forward?

FNB Joins the Experience

Adding another layer to the 2026 edition is FNB, which has come on board as the official partner.

The collaboration positions Big Day Out around more than performances, with both brands highlighting connection, experiences and memorable moments.

For festival audiences, that means the partnership becomes part of a broader lifestyle experience surrounding the music, rather than simply a corporate logo attached to the event.

What to Expect

Big Day Out 2026 runs from 12:00 to 22:00, with music spanning House, Kwaito, Amapiano and Hip Hop.

The current lineup is already substantial, while organisers have teased another phase of artist announcements ahead of November.

Whether you’re arriving for the classics, contemporary sounds or simply a day out with friends and family, the festival is shaping up as a meeting point between South Africa’s musical past and present.
