For many artists, an album launch follows a familiar formula: announce the project, perform a few songs, take some photos and send the audience home with a playlist.

Thando Zide decided to do something different.
With the sold-out KuNgawe Experience in Muldersdrift, Zide transformed her album into a physical world where music, fashion, design, food, architecture and human connection became part of the same story.
More than 500 guests stepped into an environment designed not simply to listen to KuNgawe, but to experience what it feels like.

When an Album Becomes a Place
At the heart of the experience was Zide’s performance of KuNgawe in full, with special guest Manana joining her to bring the album’s themes of vulnerability, presence and connection into a live setting.

The concept taps into something increasingly relevant to today’s audiences: people want experiences, not just content.
In an era dominated by streaming, short-form video and endless scrolling, creating a moment that asks people to slow down and be present can feel almost radical.

For Zide, that physical connection was central to the project.
“For me, KuNgawe has always been about creating space for honesty, vulnerability and connection,” .
she said
The result was an album launch that functioned more like a cultural gathering than a traditional industry event.

Design Became Part of the Music
The transformation of the Muldersdrift setting was led by South African artist and designer Keneilwe Mothoa, co-founder and Creative Director of Neimil.

Inspired by an Afro Riviera aesthetic, the environment was created to reflect the emotional landscape of KuNgawe.
Architecture, lighting, natural textures and spatial design were brought together to encourage guests to disconnect from the digital noise and reconnect with the people and sounds around them.

That distinction matters.
Rather than using design as decoration, the creative team treated the physical environment as another storytelling medium.
“Design has the power to make people feel, and every space tells a story,”.
Mothoa explained
A New Blueprint for the Album Launch
Zide’s growing presence in South African music gives the experiment added weight. She has been named Apple Music’s Up Next artist in South Africa, performed at the Cape Town International Jazz Festival alongside Nduduzo Makhathini and appeared on the TEDxJohannesburg stage.
The KuNgawe Experience extends that creative trajectory beyond the stage.

It also demonstrates what can happen when different parts of South Africa‘s creative ecosystem collaborate rather than operating in separate lanes.
Music provided the emotional foundation. Design shaped the environment. Fashion and hospitality added texture, while the audience itself became part of the experience.

With support from Stella Artois, the event also brought the brand’s Worth More philosophy into a cultural setting, positioning the partnership around creativity, connection and shared experiences.
For a generation increasingly searching for meaningful ways to engage with culture, KuNgawe offers an intriguing possibility: the future of music launches may not be something audiences simply attend — they may be something they remember living through.
