Hisense Builds Hope in Soweto

Hisense South Africa is investing in the future of South African football through a landmark grassroots initiative in Soweto, where the company officially launched the development of a new community soccer pitch aimed at empowering young players and strengthening local football development.

The project, announced on 12 June 2026, represents more than the construction of a football field. It forms part of Hisense SA‘s long-term vision to create opportunities for young athletes by providing a safe and inspiring environment where talent can be nurtured through structured community football programmes and youth tournaments.

The launch event took place at the iconic Soweto Towers, bringing together representatives from Hisense South Africa, the City of Johannesburg, ward councillors, members of the media and aspiring footballers from the local community. It also featured a heartfelt support video in which young players sent messages of encouragement to Bafana Bafana, showcasing the passion and pride that football continues to inspire across the country.

The emotional campaign highlighted an important truth: South Africa‘s future football stars are often discovered on community fields long before they reach professional stadiums. By giving local youngsters a dedicated space to play, train and compete, Hisense aims to create lasting opportunities that extend beyond the game itself.

Speaking at the launch, Deputy General Manager Luna Nortje said the project reflects the company’s commitment to South Africa after nearly three decades of operating in the country.

The new facility is expected to become a hub for youth football development, combining sport, education and community participation while helping young people develop discipline, confidence and valuable life skills.

The initiative also forms part of Hisense’s #HandsOnTheFuture campaign, which focuses on creating meaningful partnerships with communities through projects that deliver lasting social impact rather than once-off sponsorships.

As South Africa continues to celebrate its love for football, the Soweto development serves as a reminder that investing in grassroots sport remains one of the most effective ways to build the next generation of players while uplifting local communities.

Once completed, the new soccer pitch is expected to host youth football competitions, training sessions and community programmes that will provide young footballers with a platform to pursue their dreams and inspire future generations.

Hisense South Africa‘s latest investment demonstrates that meaningful community development begins at grassroots level, where every new football pitch has the potential to shape future stars and strengthen the country’s rich football legacy.
