Maigret: A New Parisian Crime Drama on Universal TV
Brand New Crime Drama Maigret Coming Soon to Universal TV
Paris becomes the ultimate crime scene in the gripping new drama series Maigret, premiering on Universal TV (DStv Channel 117) on 29 January at 8 PM. With back-to-back episodes airing every Thursday until the season finale on 12 February 2026, this six-episode series promises suspense, emotional depth, and classic detective storytelling with a modern edge.

Starring Benjamin Wainwright (Belgravia: The Next Chapter, The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim), Maigret follows the newly appointed Chief Inspector of the Brigade Criminelle, an elite investigative unit of the Paris Police. Known for his fearlessness, empathy toward criminals, and disregard for rigid authority, Maigret is an unconventional detective navigating both the darkest corners of Paris and the unresolved memories of his past.

Each two-hour block presents a close-ended story. The series opens with Maigret & the Lazy Burglar, where Maigret hunts down the brutal killers of a skilled burglar while dismantling a gang behind daring Parisian bank heists. The second chapter, Maigret’s Failure, sees him trying—and failing—to protect Ferdinand Fumal, one of France’s wealthiest men, from escalating death threats. The season concludes with Maigret Comes Home, a deeply personal case involving the murder of a wealthy perfume heir and the mysterious death of Sophie, Countess of Saint-Fiacre, in Maigret’s childhood village.

Away from the crime scenes, Maigret finds refuge with his wife Louise (Stefanie Martini), yet his memories of home—its beauty, sadness, and unresolved tensions—continue to haunt him, adding emotional layers to his investigations.

Meet Les Maigrets
Maigret is supported by a fiercely loyal and unconventional team:
- Sergeant Andrea Lucas (Kerrie Hayes): His dependable second-in-command, balancing admiration with clear-eyed realism.
- Sergeant Joseph Torrence (Blake Harrison): A sharp-witted, old-school detective with deep street knowledge and questionable habits.
- Detective Berthe Janvier (Shaniqua Okwok): Confident, fearless, and stylish, hiding a complicated personal attraction within the team.
- Detective Karim Lapointe (Reda Elazouar): A rebellious tech-savvy investigator with sharp intuition and little patience for authority.
- Inspector Justin Cavre (Robert Kazinsky): Resentful of Maigret’s promotion, whose ambition and insecurity threaten team unity.
- Prosecutor Mathilde Kernavel (Nathalie Armin): An ambitious legal force rapidly rising within France’s justice system.

Produced by Playground Entertainment for PBS Masterpiece (US), Maigret is directed by Patrick Harbinson, Faye Gilbert, and David Evans, with international distribution handled by Banijay Rights.

Maigret premieres on Universal TV on 29 January at 8 PM, with back-to-back episodes every Thursday until 12 February 2026. Universal TV is available across Africa on DStv Channel 117.
