Larcé Raymann Exits The Taste Master SA with Heart, Honey and a Bold New Culinary Vision
This week’s bittersweet episode of The Taste Master SA marked the departure of one of the competition’s most heartfelt and visually creative chefs, Larcé Raymann. As the top five contestants battled it out in a honey-inspired challenge, Larcé exited the show — but not without leaving behind a legacy of vibrant plating, soulful storytelling, and graceful composure under pressure.
Inspired by a masterclass with guest chef Zandi from Hush in My Kitchen, the challenge tasked contestants with preparing a three-course menu celebrating honey as the central ingredient. Larcé’s menu featured a starter of ricotta, honey-glazed beetroot, and prosciutto ham crackling on a bed of rocket, a main of honey-marinated pork with mash and honey-glazed carrots, and a dessert of honey and nut puff pastry buns with diplomat cream.
Despite her efforts, the intense competition and rising standards meant this week would be Larcé’s last in the kitchen stadium.
Reflecting on her Taste Master journey, Larcé shared her creative choices, inspirations, and what lies ahead.
On her honey-themed strategy:
“My approach was to KISS (Keep It Simple, Stupid). With a three-course challenge and only two hours, I didn’t want to overcomplicate things. I know how I get under pressure.”
On what she learned from Chef Zandi:
“I really admired her balance of flavours in the vinaigrette and her plating techniques. I’ve saved her recipes and will definitely use them again.”
On her father’s influence:
“My father is bold in the kitchen — I tried to channel that. This challenge was for him; he loves honey. I wish I had his ability to simplify complex ingredients.”
On her biggest growth moments:
“Chef Zola’s labneh masterclass gave me confidence to try new flavour combinations. I especially loved the pasta masterclass and Chef Nathan’s pap fondant — it showed how simple ingredients can shine.”
On what she’d change in hindsight:
“I would’ve stuck to my original ideas — a mousse for the main and a honey cake using the siphon gun. It might have been complicated, but at least I would’ve gone out trying something bold.”
On what’s next:
“I’ve registered for a culinary school open day to study part-time. I’m also working on purchasing an apartment to start a bed and breakfast and have been asked to set up a price list for private cheffing.”
Though Larcé’s time on The Taste Master SA has come to an end, her culinary dreams are just beginning. With formal training, entrepreneurial plans, and her father’s fearless spirit guiding her, Larcé Raymann is set to make her mark on South Africa’s culinary landscape.
