Proudly South African Launches E-Commerce Platforms to Boost Local Industry Growth
Newly Launched E-Commerce Platforms to Propel Local Industries on a Regenerated Growth Trajectory
In a bold move to strengthen South Africa’s localisation efforts and reignite economic growth, Proudly South African, in collaboration with the Department of Trade, Industry and Competition (dtic), has unveiled two innovative e-commerce platforms: Shop Proudly SA and the Market Access Platform (MAP). These platforms are set to revolutionise how local consumers and businesses access homegrown products and services, creating critical market linkages and expanding opportunities for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) nationwide.

Shop Proudly SA is a business-to-consumer (B2C) platform where South Africans can conveniently shop for locally manufactured goods and services—all under one digital roof. The platform caters to the growing number of conscious consumers seeking to support the local economy through their purchasing power.
Complementing this is MAP, a business-to-business (B2B) platform designed to help corporate buyers meet their localisation targets. Featuring a curated database of over 2,000 Proudly SA-accredited enterprises across various sectors, MAP offers a streamlined procurement experience that supports domestic production and job creation.
“At Proudly South African, we believe e-commerce is a powerful tool to help local businesses scale, remain competitive, and create employment. Through Shop Proudly SA and MAP, we are removing market access barriers and leveraging technology to support the localisation agenda.”

Empowering Local Economies Through Technology
The dual-platform initiative is more than just a digital innovation; it’s a strategic intervention. Many SMEs in South Africa face severe challenges in reaching customers due to market saturation, import competition, and shrinking consumer spending. By providing these businesses with exposure beyond their physical limitations and reducing the need for costly retail space, these platforms offer a cost-effective gateway to broader markets.
“boost support for Small, Medium and Micro Enterprises (SMMEs), locally manufactured goods and services, and create much-needed jobs—ultimately increasing the resilience of our economy.”
According to Minister of Trade, Industry and Competition, Parks Tau, the platforms will
Timing That Aligns With Growth Trends
This launch capitalises on the rising tide of e-commerce adoption, further accelerated by the Covid-19 pandemic. Statista reports show that South Africa’s e-commerce revenue hit $42.4 million (R763 million) in 2023 and is projected to grow to $165.1 million (R3 billion) by 2030.
With Shop Proudly SA and MAP, South African consumers and corporates no longer need to grapple with the difficulty of finding local suppliers. Whether you’re a shopper looking to support local artisans or a procurement officer working toward localisation targets, these platforms offer a user-friendly, transparent solution.
The Road Ahead
What’s more exciting is the vision to expand these platforms further. Plans are already in place to evolve the consumer-facing platform into one that also enables B2B transactions and facilitates export capabilities, opening the door to regional and global markets.
Backed by the dtic and developed with the aim of ensuring sustainability, Shop Proudly SA and MAP stand as game-changing tools for economic transformation—offering local entrepreneurs increased visibility, while delivering convenience and purpose-driven choice to consumers and corporate buyers alike.
