It’s always a labor of love, but also a highlight, to present the next installment of the Mr Bongo Record Club series. The seventh volume, set for release on 4th October 2024, continues the tradition of curating an eclectic mix of new discoveries and long-treasured gems from genres as varied as Brazilian, Latin, soul, disco, gospel, cosmic, dancehall, and downtempo. Each track is selected with care, creating a deeply personal musical experience for listeners.

This collection offers a rich array of artists, from the Brazilian sounds of Os Panteras to the underground disco of Claude Jay. Other standouts include the Danish soul duo Gitte & Inger, as well as the gospel harmonies of Truth & Devotion. Most selections are vintage productions, but the album includes one contemporary standout: “Spring Has Sprung.” This exclusive track unites cult icon Asha Puthli with SOYUZ and Swedish maestro Sven Wunder, delivering a truly breathtaking collaboration.

The curation of this volume follows two main themes. The first focuses on the Brazilian selections, exploring a more folk and Afro-Brazilian sound, with artists like As Sublimes, Romeu Fernandes, and Conjunto de PercussĂ£o Dora Pinto reflecting the vast musical tapestry of Brazil. The second theme highlights tracks that have been tried and tested on the dancefloor during Mr Bongo’s DJ sets. Disco hits such as “Come Inside” by The Shades of Love and The Duncans‘ “Too Damn Hot” bring an infectious energy to the album.

In Mr Bongo Record Club Vol. 7, the team hopes these tracks inspire listeners as much as they have inspired them. As always, music continues to be a gift that keeps on giving, offering endless opportunities to discover, share, and connect.
